we could be strangers in the night

YOUR LOVE IS ALWAYS DANGEROUS
and now i'm lost in us

The anguish painted on her face immediately stole away the suspicion against her which Zevulun had momentarily experienced. Mariael might have remained steadfast, pressuring the poor girl in an attempt to see what she was after, but Zevulun was not his sister. A look of genuine concern was his expression as he watched Kikka as she began to speak. As Kikka spoke of her brother, Zevulun thought of the closeness of he and his sisters and felt he understood where Kikka was coming from – though he wasn’t quite there. Zevulun loved his sisters and never wanted to be permanently parted from them (his home would always be in the Bay), but he wanted to strike out on his own, explore the islands and see what sort of mischief he could stir up. He didn’t know what it was like to not want to be separate from them, even temporarily.

Still, he felt for her. She made him think of Maziel (with only his two sisters as company, Zevulun had little else to compare a stranger to) and how she may feel if stranded from either Mariael or Zevulun. His heart tightened at the thought, swallowing back against it. He swelled with a protective nature, then, on Kikka’s behalf without her requesting it. When her eyes came to his, he opened his mouth and wished he could give her the answer she wanted… but knew somehow what he was going to say wasn’t what she wanted to hear.

“Yes…” Zevulun trailed off, faltering slightly, his brows pinched hard together. “There’s a territory called the Inlet which lies beside the Bay.”

His brain scrambled for what he could do to ease her discomfort. “You… you really shouldn’t travel Tinuvel alone.” That much was true, and for once Zevulun was speaking out of honest concern and not simply in an attempt to romantically woo the pretty dun girl. “It’s summer, so you’ve come at one of the better times to see the island. The sun doesn’t set, so you’ll have plenty of light to go by. With a guide who has grown up here,” he grinned a little, hoping his encouragement would help ease her lament, “you can easily cover Tinuvel within the week and be on your way back to your brother before the weather changes for the worst.”
