She knows the drill by now about being alert at night. She isn’t used to having company, however, so she has to make sure that half of her focus is on them while still keeping an ear on their surroundings. She can almost feel Talya vibrating with excitement as the filly explores the canopy of branches. Oh, to be able to move about freely without fear of pain or sudden blurry vision.

She smiles with relief, catching the warmth in the stallion’s voice as he reassures her. She would have hated to get off on the wrong foot with him during the most vulnerable part of her day. She’s not worried about Talya’s attitude; she doubts the girl goes around as anything but boisterous.

It’s been so long since someone’s said her name that she feels all tingly when she hears it from Bob’s mouth, especially considering the warm tone. One ear flicks in Talya’s direction. She can hear the rhythmic motion of the tree’s branches, indicative of someone moving them purposefully. “Be careful over there,” she warns the filly. “Tree branches have a mind of their own sometimes. They might whack you in the face if you get too rough with them.”

Her eyelids twitch, wanting to rise despite her brain knowing that her eyes are safer at night when they’re covered, as she focuses back on Bob. She nods in understanding at his dilemma. Her parents had always done everything they could to make sure she was safe.

Her face lights up even with her eyes closed as he identifies his island of choice. “You got good advice,” she tells him. “Luthien’s probably the easiest island to live on. I’ve never been there, but it has a forest that’s apparently quite beautiful and a prairie that’s even bigger than the meadow here.”

She laughs as Talya comes bounding back over. Apparently the pair had already discussed the place and she’s more than willing to give it her stamp of approval. Her heart pangs slightly at the thought of being left behind but she doesn’t let her expression slip. Her head turns slightly from the filly to the stallion.

“I’d love to come,” she says to Talya, “as long as your father doesn’t mind. I wouldn’t want to intrude on your plans.” The last bit is clearly aimed at Bob. Without an official invitation from him, she wouldn’t be able to give Talya a definitive answer.
