I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
Evaline spent most of her days leisurely sun bathing around the oasis. Today was no different. She awoke each morning and sought out the black mare she cared for so much, and while Valve was off doing her duties or whatever the hell it was she did all day, Evaline would doze quietly under the shade of a vast palm or occasionally cool off by wading into the still waters of the pond. She enjoyed the quiet that came with no children at her hooves. She also reveled in having Valve nearly all to herself, but that was changing with the increasing amount of visitors these days.
The golden mare awoke from her brief slumber when the sun was still high in the sky overhead. She remained in her neatly-tucked position in the warm sand, watching from behind groggy, sleep-filled eyes as the heat of the day caused the dunes in the distance to look like hazy, misshapen waves. Feeling stiff in her lying position, Evaline begrudgingly stood from the sand, shaking her coat lightly once she was on all fours. It was then that she caught the scent of strangers in a rare breeze. Evaline did not see Valve standing guard in the distance. So she decided to investigate herself.
She moved slowly -- her preferred speed these days from newly aching joints -- and ambled over dune after dune, until two equines came into view in the distance. Evaline watched curiously from a distance for a moment before approaching. The pair of mares could not be more starkly different from one another in size, despite their somewhat similar coat patterns. Before announcing herself, Evaline scans the dunes one more time for the lean frame of the black mare, but still, she does not see her. So Evaline issues a shrill whinny, and begins her slow approach.
When she arrives, her nostrils are flaring, but she does her best to hide how winded she actually feels. "Do you both have a death wish?" She begins, somewhat out of breathe. "It's ludicrous to be wandering across the Dunes at this hour. Even in autumn."
