light me up like a bottle rocket

Aurora doesn’t really have a concept of what a herd atmosphere is like. She had been born while her mother was Devin’s captive in the Badlands, and although Devin had been good about allowing her father to visit, she’d never actually been a part of her father’s herd. By the time her parents had been properly reunited, they’d already decided to keep her apart from everyone else so that they could figure out how best to deal with her condition.

She shifts her body to better compensate for the angle of the light, the dull throb behind her eyes a reminder that they haven’t actually been granted access to the Forest proper. She returns Persephone’s smile but is otherwise focused on her traveling companions. Talya speaks up even sooner than Aurora would have expected her to and her impression of their host is amusing enough that the roan mare has to withhold a chuckle, not knowing if Persephone will be offended.

As it turns out, she’s not, which is a relief. Aurora lets herself relax slightly, turning her attention to Bob. Her cloudy eyes turn sad at his tale; even having realized that something must have happened to Talya’s mother – it’s an unusual sight to see a stallion raising his daughter without a mare present – it’s still painful to hear it confirmed aloud. She thinks back briefly to how easily she could have grown up never knowing her father if Devin had been less of a gentleman about the whole situation.

When Bob looks her way and vouches for her, she figures it’s safe for her to do the same. ”We would be very grateful for your hospitality. Bob really is soft-spoken and Talya is…well, not quiet, obviously, but she’s respectful. We were planning on exploring all around the Forest.” She throws a grin toward the filly, an almost mischievous look in her eyes. ”Weren’t we, Talya?”

Talya’s pleading would probably be considered annoying to some, but Aurora thinks it’s part of her charm. She and Bob probably could have sat back and let Talya do all the talking if Persephone’s expression is anything to go by. At least if anything were to happen to Bob, it seems like Talya will have a place to stay.

It doesn’t take Persephone long at all to give them an answer and Aurora sighs happily, knowing that she will finally have a name to give if asked about her home. ”Thank you, Persephone,” she says gratefully. ”I think we’d like that.” She looks at Bob questioningly, willing to bet anything that Talya will be ready to jump out of her skin at the prospect of a tour. It would definitely give them a head start on their exploration plans.
