Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

The sun felt much better on my back in the aftermath of a good swim. It warmed my cool and sleek summer hide as I trudged across the Meadow, on my way to greet the dark newcomer at the other edge of the field. I watched her behavior change once she'd noticed me. The mare became much more tense and flighty. She was clear in her body language that she was unsure of my presence. As such, I did not force proximity, and stood a good few feet away from her, once I came to a gentle halt.

Two copper-colored ear lobes flick forward as she speaks, and my head rises high over my withers at first, before settling in a more relaxed position in line with my shoulders. I smile as she makes mention of the grass, and lazily lip at a few green blades that waft in the breeze near my knees. "Yes, the Crossing Isle is quite plentiful in the summer months." I say easily with the gentle flick of my red tail. "Is this your first time here?" I ask curiously, the way she described the act of swimming weighing heavily in my thoughts now. She clearly wasn't from the islands, if the act of swimming seemed so foreign and strenuous. But that wasn't uncommon for newcomers.

"It's actually the best time of year to visit the other islands in the chain." I explain casually in between swallowing mouthfuls of grass. "The currents are gentle and weather is warm. Autumn and winter can be much more dangerous." I let my brown-eyed gaze sweep over our otherwise quiet surroundings once more before turning my attention back to the dark young mare. "Where are you from?"
