I agree that Kate Smith was no racist, and that things have changed a lot since 1931; i.e., Amos and Andy were a popular black duo on radio; Al Jolson performed Mammy in blackface; and even the popular black singer, Paul Robeson, recorded the Darkies song in 1931. Replies:
