Live through this lie [Evren, Warsaw]

Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

I gave Ruger a fair nod of so long, before disappearing down the familiar trail toward the Forest. I was anxious for this day for several reasons. But perhaps most of all, because it would be the first time I'd spend time alone with Evren since, well, since we fought in battle and then she came to my home to berate me about it. It seemed so strange to think about those days now. Life had certainly changed so much for both of us, and our families. Persephone was seemingly her family now. And we had bigger issues afoot than just some lingering bad blood, or other kinds of tension, between us.

Nevertheless, it has been quite some time since being alone in a mare's company made me nervous.

I waited patiently for the athletic, two-toned mare to meet me underneath the Forest's canopy of trees. I held my breath for a second too long when I first spied her approach. I nickered warmly, or at least attempted to, when she was within earshot. I offered her a lopsided smirk and a flick of my tail before saying, "Let's get moving."

The days were shorter this time of year, as summer waned into fall. And while Tinuvel was hardly the farthest island in the chain from Luthien, it would take some time for us to make the trek from one island to another. I'd thought often of this moment - since Persephone blessed the arrangement for us to travel together. My hope was to get to know her better. But if I could impress her along the way...

Silently I'd wondered how she ended up in the Forest after all this time. It seemed strange for a mare as proud as Evren to abandon her family's legacy and home on Salem. I didn't mean to pry, by any means, but as we cut through the churning depths of the sea and paddled farther away from Luthien, it seemed like no better time. "How did you end up with Persephone?" I asked, in between snorts to expel saltwater from my nostrils.

Eventually we rose onto the shores of Tinuvel. Creamy plumes of carbon dioxide fled with ever exhale, and a chill ran down the length of my spine as I gave my damp coat a good shake. Vita Nova had no idea we were coming. My heart skipped a beat every now and then when I thought about seeing her. There was no way to tell how she would react to seeing Evren after all this time, and Evren arriving here with me. "Vita Nova... I'm not sure how she'll handle this." I warn Evren as we hesitate along the pebble shore of the Inlet. But I guess the same could be said for Warsaw. The grey stud, however, I knew how to handle.

I gave the painted mare one last stern look, one that read watch your back before forging ahead deeper into enemy territory.
