The nightmare that became a reality

Ruger

Ruger had known the moment he said the words that Macabre would refuse. It was only because their son had come out from hiding, urged on by his mother, that Ruger was able to hide his dread at her voiced refusal. Reaching out his nose again, Ruger lightly touched it to Bacardi’s much smaller one. The foal’s whiskers tickled his lips and around his nostrils which made a soft snort escape the stallion. It startled the paint foal, causing him to give a squeal and retreat to Macabre. But it seemed he forgot his fear halfway there, making a circle around her legs and giving a few bucks, tossing his head.

“I will go with you, wherever you allow me.” Ruger replied, surprised at the strong feeling that came with those words. As if trying to hide it, the stallion quickly changed the subject. “Let’s head for the Forest, they at least need to know your leaving.” He said before he moved past the duo, his legs carrying him towards the Forest. Bacardi flicked his ears in curiosity, watching as the stallion that claimed was his father lead the way now. “Are we going to keep him?” he whispered to his mother, looking up at her with those lupine yellow eyes filled with curiosity.

So much filled Ruger’s mind along the walk to the Forest. Wasp being one of them, now that Macabre’s daughter had been mentioned. He had not seen her in quite some time; since the red mare had escorted him so heatedly off the Peak. It would be good to see her again, if only to tease her now that she would be grown. Oh, but would he hear an earful for the tie they now shared. Ruger just hoped she took it happily rather than angry with him.

Pausing among the trees, Ruger’s nares flared with the filling scents of women. Cherish and Clarity, Persephone and…. Wasp? It was like thinking about her had conjured the young horse. Turning his head back towards Macabre, he offered her a smile. “Go ahead.” He said, knowing surely, she would be overly excited to see her missing daughter. “Bacardi and I will catch up. It’s not a reunion I want to miss.” The painted stallion promised.
