bring me back to life...

The moment his head turned and his gaze met hers, she inhaled sharply and her body stiffened in response. She didn't know why, exactly, except that he had a new look in his eyes and it was both entrancing and almost terrifying. There was almost an expectation there, like he already saw something in her that she couldn't see for herself and she was terrified that she wouldn't meet that expectation. And yet she still wanted to know him. Only when he looked away, was she able to breathe again. He said that he didn't expect to see her here and he slowed turned to face her. She swallowed, managing to stand her ground as she pricked her ears, though they continued to flick back and forth in her uncertainty. She lowered her head a little, her voice soft. "I came...looking for you." He didn't have a glossy mane and tail or sheen to his coat, but he was built and healthy and had a rugged charm to his features.

He was a wild stallion and looked as a wild stallion should look, at least in her opinion. He was experienced and confident, yet something haunted his eyes and it both called to her and made her afraid of what she might find. As his gaze moved over her, her skin shuddered, though it was more a reaction of her thoughts wandering to the way her former stallion used to look at her. There was no possessive hunger in Ruger's eyes or an urge to hurt something. He said that he was glad Requiem was taking care of her. She dipped her head in a nod. "Yes, he's kind." She was glad that he didn't seem resentful or angry when he spoke of Requiem. She understood that it was all business when it came to taking other stallions' mares, so she'd hate to come in between the two stallions as something personal.

A frown marred Ruger's handsome features before he composed himself, wiping his face clear of anything but a neutral expression. Evanescence blinked and her ears flicked back, slightly troubled by how easily and quickly he was able to do that, as if he had honed the talent for a long time. A soft snort left her nostrils as she swished her tail. He asked then why she wasn't with Requiem and she tilted her head, studying him for a moment before she answered, her gaze finding the ground at their hooves as she spoke. "I just needed some space. The Inlet....is tense right now. Apparently the land just switched hands and the herd is split in two. The air feels thick...I can't breathe." She shook her head and let out a sigh as if to prove that she could breathe much better here. She didn't know if any of that was supposed to be a secret and her brows furrowed at the thought.

Surely, a herd getting a new leader would be news that would get around. He might already know, or would shortly whether she told him or not. She didn't want to think that she was sharing herd secrets and make Requiem upset with her. He was nice to her. She didn't want to betray him, and so early into coming to the Inlet. Stomping a fore hoof, her tail swished in irritation at herself as she continued to stare at the ground as if there was something very interesting about it.
