the song was upside-down

Permission to visit Paradise comes a surprise to Nattergal. Liland has ruled with an iron fist, and his stubbornness not only drove a wedge into their family, but held them at a splintered distance. Nattergal didn't expect him to yield. Perhaps his tomfoolery was effective in delivering his message. Nattergal was unhappy with their arrangement, very unhappy, and he made no secret of such. Liland's relenting has served to teach Nattergal one thing; it's that persistence pays off.

The colt sets off at once to collect his sister. He finds her grazing near the herd, predictable as always. "Come Havelle. We're going to visit mother." Nattergal doesn't give her an option.

If he had, she probably wouldn't have refused, but maybe she would have voice her concerns. Havelle's stomach turns with unease. She's heard talk of war. Paradise's involvement is no secret. Would such a visit be safe right now? Liland let them go, so it must be alright. Havelle silently agrees. She falls into step beside her brother, and together they take the plunge off the icy shores of Tinuvel.

The twins pull themselves ashore on the familiar isle of Atlantis. A long swim has left them panting and fatigued. They shake the water from their coats and look upon the jungle home they left behind. The trees somehow seem smaller, and the territory less vast. Though it's not Paradise that's shrank; it's the twins that have grown. They enter into their second year, trading their fluffy foal coats and long, gangly legs for sleek coats, and the fuller figures of young adolescents.

Mixed feelings stir inside Havelle. Returning to Paradise recalls fond memories, and its familiarity brings comfort. This place could be home, but now too, is the Bay.

The sight of Paradise confirms more definitive feelings for Nattergal. This where he belongs. Paradise is more of a home than the Bay could ever be. He would rather watch it burn than return to its shores.

They both heave a sigh, Nattergal's heavy with relief, and Havelle's shaking with concern. The twins step into the shade of the trees. Their eyes search the paths for the familiar sight of their mother. Nattergal calls out for her, but the chatter of birds is the only answer he gets. Paradise is awfully quiet. Has war drawn Zjeena to another shore?
