blasphemy - you know royalty has a heart of gold

Some horses were herd animals by nature, craving the company of others like one would crave a lost limb. But she didn't seem to mind the solitude of being without a group. Dex admired that, especially in a mare. Not that he felt them any less capable of surviving alone than a stallion. It was just less heard of since mares usually enjoyed the company of other mares and had a thing for seeking out male company when the right season came around. Stallions could be found wandering alone waiting for the perfect opportunity to swoop in and steal a mare or two and start a herd of their own or even create their own group of bachelors. Some wandered for months or years even, looking for a group to join. Fortunately Dex wasn't long on his own between groups. He left the herd he shared with Talien when he saw the shadows of a bachelor group in the distance. He tracked them down and joined their ranks after only a few days.

When he left them, it was probably a couple months or so before he swam to the islands here and chanced upon the filly he had fallen for all those years ago, now grown into a picturesque mare. When he brought up hotter seasons ahead, the red dun smiled as if she could already picture it. He glanced around himself, sure the meadow was quite lovely in the heat of summer or the bloom of spring. Flowers would be everywhere and trees would be lush and ripe. The grass would be even sweeter and wet with morning dew. Yes, he could picture it himself. He could also see the unborn child Talien now carried running around and kicking up their heels. A sweet little filly or a micheveous colt, he had no doubt they would be perfect, a mixture of him and Talien.

She said that summer would be the best time to explore and he nodded in agreement. Maybe then she wouldn't mind getting wet so much. "Just make sure you have a place to get away by the time falls comes around or you might find the stallions in the area more charming than usual." His lips twitched into a small smirk but his eyes were clear with warning. Whether she was still around here to hide out in the trees or had found a herd land to call home, he just wanted her to stay safe by the time hormones started to run rampant on the islands. Not all stallions were charitable when they smelled a mare in heat. She said she was never alone and he smiled, ears swiveling as if to look for the horses she referred to. Of course, there were none in the close proximity but he knew what she was talking about. The meadow was sure to collect its share of those coming and going.

She even nudged her nose toward him and said she'd found him and his eyes lit up before he nodded. "Yes, you did." She said she was never wanting for friends or conversation and he smiled, looking around before his ears flicked back and his face sobered a little. "And at night? Do you have a safe place to bed down away from potention predators?" He was sure the mainland had its share of dangerous creatures like snakes, coyotes, cougars, bears, and the like. He hadn't seen any but there were the usual signs on the environment around them, scratches in the bark of trees and foul smelling stool in the grass. When she asked what brought him here, he looked around again with a slight smirk. "To explore a little. I haven't seen most of what the islands have to offer and I figure it's best to have allies if I ever have need for me or my family."
