i'll get under your skin

This was it, a brand new life. The grey mare shook out her coat as she pranced out of the waves surrounding the Meadow. She had a whole life of possibilities before her and nothing was going to get in her way. Not her parents, not her controlling "betrothed." No, stupid Vapor couldn't reach her here. She wouldn't play to the politics of the herd anymore. She tried all her life to be the daughter her parents wanted, to learn the manners and watch her P's and Q's. She showed off her grace for the suitors and played it coy just like her mother taught her. Then her parents chose the winner and she was stuck with the dumbest stallion she ever came across. Vapor thought he was all that and all he did was follow her around telling her what to do. 'You should get out of the sun or your skin will burn.' 'Don't eat so much grass. Your belly's showing.' 'Don't go in that cave. You'll scuff your hooves.'

He was too much, and yet her parents would look on with all the approval in their eyes. Why did they want her to be with him? Why couldn't they see how miserable he made her? But they didn't care, cause he was going to inherit a herd some day and she would be his queen. She didn't know who would be dumb enough to give that guy his own herd but she wasn't about to wait around and find out. She definitely wasn't going to have a child with that baffoon. He wasn't worth the skin on her heel. Shaking away the negative thoughts, the arabian mare arched her neck and paraded throught the meadow, her tail waving out behind her like a flag as she let her brown eyes take in the other horses. Who would dare to approach her?
