courage, dear heart; vadim

She grazed quietly, strangely contemplative despite her nature. She hadn't expected Enya to disappear so soon, but then again, she hadn't really expected to have been claimed by a mare leader in the first place. Not that Isla had anything against mare leaders, they just weren't common, and she'd always sort of assumed that they preferred to collect menfolk the way the Tinuvel mare did, if the rumors were true. It hadn't occurred to her that they just wanted to collect bodies, too, the same way her mother had warned her about as a girl. That there were stallions that did not care about the mares they claimed, only that they existed, and could produce children.

Isla hadn't yet met anyone quite like that before, but her mother's vehemence had left an impression.

Even so, neither of the last times Isla had come to the Commons had ended poorly and so she fully intended to do so again come the break of dawn. Now that Kerr was weaned and off wandering the world on his own, she felt unattached once more. No longer, yoked to the sort of responsibility that a child came with. It hadn't been a bad experience - Kerr was a sweet boy and Isla loved him dearly - but she missed the freedom of travelling without a colt to watch over.

The last of summer's heat had warmed the earth beneath her hooves, and she sought out a bare patch of it, where the sand and the soil mixed. She assumed it was a popular rolling spot considering the hoofprints surrounding it and the lack of vegetation, and wasted no time in testing out the reviews. She groaned softly in delight as the warmed earth met her skin and rolled over and over and over again with a soft laugh. When she felt thoroughly refreshed she propped both of her petite forelegs before her and hefted herself upright, dislodging the extra debris with a thorough shake.

Only then did she notice the outlandishly tall stallion standing before her, and set her weight back so that she could peer up at him. "Och, sorry. I didna see ye here. Fancy a roll yerself? It's a good spot."
