It wasn't hard to spot Helios today. The rich chestnut coat of the stallion was stark against the pale beach as he strode out upon it, even in the tender dawnlight. The brown of his eyes glinted against the morning sun as he gazed out over the water. Helios had gotten an early start observing the borders of his part of the territory, establishing by way of scent that these ways were watched and guarded. His keen gaze swung to the right, from the southwest waters northerly to the west. That was when he caught sight of the two figures down the shoreline.
For a moment, he took them in: the larger, darker adult and the smaller, paler figure which he assumed to be a young foal. The stallion's ears twisted back against his poll and then forward once more with curiosity. These weren't his first visitors from the ocean, but the chestnut wondered after their story. Being of the younger and perhaps more impatient sort, the male made his way to them. Coming from the upper slopes of the beach, Helios came as if he were the desert incarnate. The rich orange and brown tones of his coat gleamed in the gathering light, stark against the cream of his mane.
With a warm nicker to the foreigners, Helios came to a stop a few strides away. He considered the mare and her young child with a keen eye. Thoughts drifted to the child's father and if he might come looking for them. This thought ruffled something still fiercely territorial in the newness of his claim upon the Dunes. The brassy male offered a smile that bade them welcome. Any sign of concern lay neatly and unnoticed beneath his expression. "Welcome, fair ladies, he says genuinely. "I am Helios, lord over these lands." Directing his dark gaze firmly to the mare, he asks: How might I assist you?"
