When the scent of the Lagoon filled Hiyori’s nose, a whole new fear engulfed her. It made the young mare’s eyes roll, and the whites visibly show, before she whirled around to see who had approached her. His white patched hide was thankfully different enough from Kristjan’s that there was no mistaking them for one another, but there was no less fear in her eyes. This was one of his lagoon brothers, and despite his bland smile, the Peak raised mare knew he was up to no good.
Ears pinning into her pale flowing locks, Hiyori lunged at him, but didn’t try to connect. Her weight rocked back, and she came to a halt mere inches from colliding her chest into his shoulder. Chin held high, her front hooves felt light, a clear threat that she might rear up at him and strike. Hiyori was not a fighter, and for now it was all a bluff, but instinct might demand more if her daughter finally came out of hiding. For now, Hiyori would do her best to make the stallion forget that she was looking for anyone at all.
“Away with you, filth!” she demanded hotly, despite her heart hammering so hard in her chest, Hiyori was sure that it would burst free any moment. “No one wants to be around your kind.” And yet, she had spent every night for seasons with exactly his kind.
