my thoughts Posted on July 14, 2024 at 00:05:28 AM by kiwi
twin dibs
What are your general thoughts on this topic? Do you feel as though the current system is fair and balanced?
i don't really have any feelings about the twin dibs. it's not something i'm really interested in as a player, however i do think that it getting nabbed almost immediately every season by perks isn't fair for those that haven't won, especially when having perks is rare.
Do you feel as though it would be fair to limit the number of twins dibs to one per season? This would leave the second pair of twins to be rolled naturally.
i think this is a pretty fair compromise that still allows people with the perk to use them, as long as they're fast enough. this does potentially make the season start early as people will have to plan ahead if there's only one slot if they know multiple people want to use it.
Do you feel that it would be beneficial to raise the maximum number of twins per season to three? If we did so, the third twin would not be given out until the season mid-point and would be naturally rolled only. If so, how would you balance the rarity?
nope. i don't think there should be three sets of twins per season. twins are a death sentence for the mare and the foals 99% of the time and it's a little immersion breaking already with too from a realism perspective.
Do you have any other thoughts or suggestions not covered by the above points?
twins isn't something i'm personally interested in so i do have ideas but i don't think it's fair to have them when it's not something i would be impacted by.
away protection
Do you think the way away protection currently works is fair? Are there any changes you would like to see?
away systems can and will be abused, no matter the rules or regulations you put behind them. it's never going to be fair to everyone involved. i am unable to write and have territory/positions on most sites because of my health. in the last 2 years i have gone away a few times and taken the full month due to surgery, complications from surgery, being in and out of the hospital, car accident, and just generally being sick. i understand the frustration when my territories have sat empty while i was away but to add losing my territory to the list of things being upended in my life at those times would have really sucked. often times people pop into chat and ask about activity levels and such and people always say tli is low stress and people will wait awhile. the proposed systems are not low stress, especially if someone is away for a more serious issue. i am absolutely guilty of "abusing" the away to keep my territory while i was recovering, but how fair is it to call it abuse when i had a "valid" reason? i don't think the site should be put on hold for me, but i also don't want to lose something i worked hard for due to things i can't control.
Which (if any) of the above solutions seem the most fair to you? Or do you have your own idea?
i would rather see cimarron come back or lowering it to one person only having 1 territory before any of those systems if i'm being honest. there are plenty of places with sub lead spots or leaders willing to let smaller herds coexist in their territories. if someone has to go away for something serious, the last thing they need is counting how many weeks from the last time they had to go away was to see how much saved time they have. rping is meant to be fun and engaging and not a job on top of everything else in life.
in conclusion, tli's away policy was a big selling point for why i came back after such a long time away and it sucks to think my health might make another thing inaccessible for me. i support whatever decisions staff makes and i absolutely understand if the away policy is made stricter, but from a chronically ill perspective i don't see how i'd keep up.
