Annubis did not exactly like the idea of leaving Hymn and Promise alone in Paradise but sometimes it felt like a necessity. He promised to return soon but from the doubtful expression in her silent eyes as she blinked back at him, the silverling beast knew that she had her doubts. Hell, if half she said (and didn’t say) were true, he probably would find it hard to be anything that fell from his lips too. At least she had agreed to give him a chance, that was promising. The fact that she had done so without a fight was equally impressive. Had the roles been reversed, he would have fought tooth and nail. Well, maybe not that hard, she was a pretty face to look at after all. Dour expression and all.
But it was clear to him just how much the mother loved her daughter and how hungry the young filly was for companionship. Hymn had clearly done well on her own, but the brightness that shown in the girl’s eyes when she stared up at him was enough to remind him of when Holo had been a child and how desperate he too had once been to ensure that the filly had every bit that life had to offer.
And so he returns to the main island, hoping that luck might once again be on his side and bless his search. Multifaceted eyes roam over the few faces that hung around the common fields, but none of mares had any foals at their side like Hymn had. A few mangy stallions, a mare or two but mostly, the island seemed to be suffering from the same fate as Atlantis at the moment. Whatever creatures resided here seemed to have sought shelter from the rising storms that loomed threateningly in the skies above. With any luck, it was but a single early spring squall that would pass as quickly as it had arisen. He would not dare delay his return to Paradise any longer than necessary if only to chuck a ‘told-you-so’ grin at Hymn’s cautious eyes.
The sound of rustling leaves draws his attention from the distance of his wandering thoughts. Raven-tipped ears perk forward amid the mass of tangled tresses as the beast sets his roaming gaze for the origin of quiet voices and hushed whispers. A flash of white here and a passing of shadows there. Despite the promise of a looming storm, whatever moved through the dense brush moved with quick and purposeful steps. Naturally curious, the sterling dragga moves to intercept, navigating his way through the dense woodlands until he is near where the pair (for he distinctly caught at least two scents in passing) emerged into the meadow. As with the commons, only a handful of horses have emerged from whatever cover they had found, attempting to brave the coming storm for the promise of fresh grass. What caught his attention however, is the mother and foal pair that move with purposeful steps. For a moment the beast studies the mare, watching as she cautiously keeps the child on a hidden path that hugs the treeline and yet is far enough within the meadows that she could easily avoid whatever beast or monster that has her so tense. Paper-thin nostrils flare as the beast offers a voice of warning should she have missed it before. A suave smile words its way into place along his whiskered lips as the sterling beast angles himself towards the pair, making it clear of his intentions. Golden eyes glimmer in the deepening shadow as he draws near, his ashen legs slowing to allow the lithe beast to keep pace with the mother and child. ”Running from or running to something?” he asks, slight amusement in the deep tenor of his voice as he arches his sleek neck slightly towards the treeline. ”Paradise is that way if you think an alternative might be just what you need.” Hey, he never said he was GOOD at introductions. It’s the attempt that counts right?
