Thunder roared in a deep bass rumble through the dark sky. The light of the sun was blocked out, making the world turn into a darker space. Dark grey, almost black clouds rolled over the islands with a deep twist to their churning depths. Winds of high speed followed, the battering ram howling winds pushing against tall pine trees and breaking tops out of thinner cottonwoods. Birds hid in their respective areas and smaller rodents and mammals vanished from open areas of land. Everything was hiding as the turbulent thunder storm roared overhead, forcing silence from all land dwellers while it raged like a giant drum set.

The sideways rain it brought on had many hunkering even more. Places that were normally safe by thick branches found themselves soaking wet with rain dropping from their thin coats. This end of summer storm was building fires farther out in it, but when the first lightning bolt hit the ground and started the very first lick of flame on the islands, animals began to panic. It was not the right time for a storm of this caliber, but it hit with a vengeance. Thunder roared, wind sang, rain drowned, and fire raged. The once dark area now was blazing in orange as flames licked up from the open area near a beach.

Blinking blue eyes with ears tucking tight to their head, a two toned cream mare stared at the raging inferno. This was out of par for her home, making her skin prickle with fear as her island based home began to burn. It had been ages since she saw one like this on the mainland, but now it had followed her. Shifting her weight, the solitary mare shook her head as the rain coursed through her thin fur and to the ground. It was statically charged, her fur standing up in some spaces as the lightning raged overhead with the thunder. She could feel her body tremble, the feeling of being supercharged coursing through her veins. The need to run, to flee, was tasting bitter on her tongue, but the mare shook her head once more before throwing her body into the sea and making another long swim to another set of islands she had once seen before.

Racing against time and a storm, Kai fought turbulent ocean waves and jutting rocks. The uneven land of the sea bed caused her to be thrust into shooting spires of rock around lesser islands while also forcing her to suffer being drug under. Her thick legs fought against the current, but she barely managed to survive. With one last heave from the killing sea, the pale mare was spit out in a tangled heap upon another set of islands. The storm still raged overhead, but this land had been rained on hopefully more than her last home. With hope in her veins, the mare stood from where she lay with a heaving cough. Salt water stung leaving her throat, but she hacked it all up anyways.

Pulling herself from where she had been spit out, Kai just moves farther upon the island before stumbling to her knees. Liquid tendrils of blood slowly seeped through her fur, marking other places in the bright liquid while others stayed their standard light hue. Closing her eyes with a deep and shaky breath, Kai rested until a towering cottonwood tree. The top, laying many feet away, had already been snapped off. She would have to suffer branches if they came down. Laying her head down with a shuddering groan however, Kai just rested as the towering and weak tree creaked and groaned overhead, the raging storm now right directly above her in a land unknown.
