You're right about the first part, white knuckling is getting sober the hard way, without using your higher power (praying), your sponsor.

Dry drunk is not really related to white knuckling. Many drunks tend to be belligerent but not all. Drunks can be assholes when they're drinking and lose their decorum, their inhabitions. But even when they're abstaining, able to resist drinking and still act like drunk assholes. We all know guys who have mouths on them even if they've quit. Theyr'e dry but act and behave as if they're drunk. We call them 'dry drunks'
