Glad you chimed in, since you represent what I imagine are long term fans with experience and perspective. Who are also inclined to make some bets.
I didn't want to post anything negative or critical, especially there are so few people who care anyway. But let's get real!
This situation inspired me to look up Grover Norquist, owing to his famous quote:
I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.
MC made the decision to go all in on Battlecourt, leaving 'pelota' to fade away Norquist-style.
At this point it is about 99% down the drain.
When do they play? Whenever.
How many perfs? Bare minimum.
What kind of pools can we anticipate? Micro-mini.
etc.
The inescapable reality of parimutuels is that there is a certain minimum threshold for each pool, below which they just don't work. If your $10 win bet warps the odds from 7-1 to 2-1, you go from nice winner to miserable loser. Owing to inflation, a $3 exacta from 1980 should be $12 today. Try betting that amount on an exacta at MC.
So yeah, system bettors who rely on huge rebates might still be able to milk the tri pools, as per normal. Anybody else is not gonna be too happy.
If you just like to watch, then maybe you'll be ok with it. But zero betting fuels the circular reinforcement for the Norquist agenda.
Who cares anymore?
Exactly, if they don't care (as revealed by scheduling choices, and the rest of it), why would the fans?
Bottom line for me is that I won't be following. Or if I do (not likely) it will be at the most superficial level. Replies:
