The air is heavy as you make your way through unknown territory, as you pause to sniff the air a drop of rain falls onto your nose. It is soon followed by another and another and soon the rain is pelting down in sheets, soaking you to the bone. The clouds are an angry purple and the menacing drumming of thunder rolls over the sky. Squinting your eyes against the blinding water you find yourself at the edge of a large, dark pine forest. You are too desperate for shelter to notice the scents that mark the border and plunge in, and nearly into the chilly stream that runs through the territory. You veer away and as you are shaking the water out of your fur you notice a large pair of icy blue shards gazing at you. The storm has passed now and beams of sunlight filter through the thick canopy of pines, illuminating a massive male wolf not three feet away from where you stand.

His pelt looks like a bad patchwork job of black and white and beneath them you see large, hard bands of steely muscle and you know this is a warrior for his torso is marred with many battle scars. His banner curls over his back and his lips are drawn, exposing sharp ivory daggers. When he speaks his voice is deep and dominant, like the thunder you so recently heard.

"Wolf, you have found yourself in the terra of the Andere Seite Pack. I am Eclipse, king of this land."

It is only then that you notice another pair of lanterns gleaming in the penumbra and a dark-pelted fae slinks out into the clearing to stand next to the king, her own banner waves and her green and blue eyes bore into you. She is the same size as most males and a crisscrossing pattern of scars show that she too can take care of herself. Her voice is cold and has a snake-like sound to it yet you can see they are both fair rulers.

"And I am Nephthys, queen of Andere. We don’t care much for strangers so you must make your choice, Submit to us now or flee our lands and never return. If you fail to do either you will have little time left to regret it."

The formidable pair pierces you with their gaze and you feel as if all your secrets spill out before them. You are left with a decision now. Will you submit and take refuge in this dark forest or will you flee and never know what secrets these trees hide? Make haste, you can see that the pair grow tired of waiting.

THOUGH STILL RATHER tired, lying numbly in the snow, the young pup’s over sized ears remained alert. His eyes remained gazing into Nephthys’s … not wanting her to leave his vision. She might disappear … disappear like his other mother had. In fact, it seemed as though she was about to answer his question as to where Eclipse had gone … yeah, a couple words got out. But in the middle of her words, suddenly the most horrid shrieking sound broke through the air. He would have whimpered if he would not have been so afraid … so frozen. It was almost like finger nails on a chalkboard, though a wolf would not know what that was. Though his body remained still, arguing against his mind, his mismatched brown and blue eyes frantically searched around for the source of the horrifying scream. Once his eyes locked onto it, they never left it.

HIS BREATHING STOPPED momentarily. At first the strange looking creature –the one he saw before- seemed to be flying at them in slow motion. It was coming like it had been shot form a cannon, directly aimed for his mother. Still, he could not move … simply lay in the snow and watch. Once things came into perspective, though, it all went very, very fast. Another form flew out from the trees, and at first Zanzibar thought it might be another one of those. But instead, it was another wolf … one he had not really met before, but was familiar all the same. The angry, strange creature and the male wolf began fighting, and the sounds of it were terrifying. Large ears echoed with the ripping, snarling sounds, and they flattened back to protect themselves.

IT WAS AS if those sounds had been a wake up call to the rest of his body. Zanzibar was soon able to somewhat move, though not very far. His limbs were still trying to revive, plus the snow made his footing strange. He tried backing away, and ended up stumbling backwards to end up at the very edge of the clearing. Not that he was planning to actually leave … not with his mother there. His masked face simply remained towards the action … mismatched eyes refusing to leave the sandy colored creature. Her tan body was first fighting against the male, but soon it was hurting his mother. The dark pelted femme was strong … he knew that, but still, it scared him. He did not want his mother, who he already felt bonded with, to be hurt like that. He could see and smell the blood being spattered … and from that moment he decided … blood was a bad thing.

IT MOVED BACK to the other wolf, and soon after that, the evil creature was gone. And yet still, he could not move. He just realized he was now shivering, and could not decide if it was because of the chilling snow or the events that had just happened. Probably both. Everything was deathly silent in the clearing for what seemed like eternity. He felt so small … so invisible. But, what seemed too soon, footsteps were surrounding him. There was more than one set, heavy against the snowy earth, and headed towards the red clearing. His fur began to spike, slightly, and the pace of his breathing rapidly increased. But, first through the trees to enter was his Aunt Kimani, and she ran straight to his mother. That relieved him slightly, though only when the light grey form of another pack mate entered was he calmed enough to try and breath normal.

THE YOUNG WOLF raised a large paw, as if to try and take a step … his mismatched eyes noticed that the male who had come to save him and his mother had collapsed. Most of the snow in the clearing was painted red or was at least an odd shade of pink. His mother was dripping blood as was the other wolf who had fought. Least could be said that all was not well in the land of Andere Seite. When his legs finally complied and moved, they ended up moving quite quickly. It was a straight line to his mother, and when he reached her bloody form, he did not stop until they were touching. He curled up into a tight ball next to her soft stomach, finally feeling protected. His gentle pink tongue extended, licking up some of the blood that was on a nearby leg, and then he whimpered softly, nuzzling his cheek against her leg. He loved his mother, and wanted her to be ok … and though he could not actually say that, his actions, he hoped, were enough to show that.
