aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The chill sweeps over my skin ruffling my fur like a lover. Deep down my heart leaps in its frozen cage. Home I had come home. I had left months ago to search out Athena's pups and call them home, along the way I had found a surprising fea. I knew all five would follow soon. I had sent the young adults out to hunt and bring own a kill. I had been gone to long but this pack needed warriors. We had grown far to week. So I had taken the teens and molded four strong warriors, then she had come. I know she would fit well into the pack. We had become close friends . During this time I went to the rival pack that had stolen the pups. They now were grown and it was clear when I bumped into them they did not remember. My heart hangs heavy for as a mother, I knew to cause a war they would come to hate me. Now, now it was time to return and break the news to the pack.
My only hope is that enough time has passed each member has healed. I step back into the comforting embrace of the frozen forest. Shadow surrounds and while my lungs burn with the air I had always called home. As I raise my head to send out a call and familiar voice echoes over the lands. Life was still in these lands. I scent many a new wolf. Hopefully with the blood of the new recruits and any new wolf we could become a thriving pack again. When I made the choice to go searching for wolves my home, our home had been in a sad state. Instead of calling out I allow my black form to slip into the shadows I had missed dearly. My footfalls are silent even over the frosted ground. Each step is quick and fleeting as I touch the frozen ground. I follow the scent of Cody. Soon Zig joins his scent. A zap of thrill runs through my cold veins. I had not seen our young fea in awhile. I enter the clearing silently. My tail raised high, despite my absence I knew none had challenged for I had come to check the borders regularly. These lands were still mine, they would be mine until the death of my cold dead heart. My bloody white orbs stare in the direction of the other two wolves. My black pelt was dotted with the moisture of melting frost. The chill air showed my deep even breathing.
The silence seems to stretch before all of us. I let it go one for minutes before I break it. Then I slowly dip my head in a bow to the two wolves in the clearing. I make my final footsteps over to them.
" Cody, Zig, merry meet my old friends."
I leave the words hanging in the air. I had never been warm and loving, I have always been aloof and protective. These loyal wolves knew I would not bound about like a pup wagging and spreading wolf like hugs. Yet each knew they had something more important, they held my respect. Not something I give out lightly.
I position myself so I can track the scents of any other wolf who may join us. Any further communication I leave to Cody and Zig. They may very well have a few choice words to speak to me, or they may choose to just accept my return. I had informed Vela and Akina only of leaving for the recruitment mission. The others I had hoped would step up and take care of things. I knew King King had stepped up greatly , and Cody's scent dominated the air as well.
