At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Mae’s grinned brightened when Terrel told her she wasn’t bothering him, that he was glad to have some company. She really hadn’t wanted to stumble across any wolves with a bad attitude and felt much safer being around someone she knew. “I’m glad to have some company too,” she told him, tail beating slowly against the ground as she sat. As they talked about water, she could tell their fishing trip was on his mind as it was on hers. She’d never had as much fun in a first meeting with another wolf and had been pleasantly surprised to immediately get along with one of her pack mates. It usually took her a while to warm to others; she was still rather nervous around Cai even though they’d spoken a number of times now. “Yes,” she agreed with him, “It really is rather relaxing.”

Her yawn was evidence of her previous statement on being relaxed, but a light breeze caused a shiver to spread through the femme’s body. She was glad it wasn’t too cold out, though it helped that during this conversation they weren’t soaked through with near frozen river water. As Mae explained her choice of coming here over further downstream, she saw Terrel nod along. She was always afraid of boring others if she spoke for too long on one topic, but their conversation seemed to be continuing smoothly and she was finding it easier to speak as time went on. She felt herself drawn to listen to him, wanting to hear his opinion on everything they spoke of. Perhaps it was due to the fact that she’d not had a decent conversation in a long time before she met the male before her. She’d grown up around the wolves in her home land and had a number of friends she could easily talk to there, but she’d always been shy and her nervous disposition had only increased on her journey that led her to Blossom Forest. That was the fault of strangers she’d met; there were cruel wolves out there, but luckily she’d survived the journey and had found a peaceful home within Saw Tooth.

When Terrel mentioned his mother possibly being at Romance River, Mae could partly understand the worry she could detect in his tone. There were other emotions she couldn’t make out, but she spoke what she hoped would be comforting words, “The way you talk about her, she seems strong willed enough to stay safe there.” It was safer to be there in the company of someone else, but she was possibly being paranoid. Not everyone there was how she pictured them. It was only a few bad encounters that blackened her picture of the otherwise scenic place. She was glad as they moved on, happy to learn a bit more about him and pleased to see that he was at least willing to open up with this piece of information.

“I can imagine it is,” she nodded in acknowledgment, “The special places to me from that age are many nights of running from here. In fact, I doubt I’d be able to find my way back now if I ever wanted to, but they’ll always be in my memory.” Her ears dipped a little, eyes flickering from holding his gaze to look at the rushing water as she thought back to the lands she’d been born in. She could see them as clearly as though she’d been there yesterday and her couple of seconds of silence were in respect and memory of the life she’d lived there. She wondered briefly how her old pack was doing, but soon forced herself to stop thinking like that. Her look turned back to Terrel’s after a moment ad she returned her thoughts to the present day, for there was no use looking back on what was when she had a bright future in Saw Tooth to look forward to.

The conversation returned easily to the male’s mother. Mae was happy learning more about Terrel and glad she could speak a little of her own past when it came up; she hadn’t really spoken of her old home growing up since leaving those lands. She was worried about the stress the other seemed to emit, however, as he voiced his concerns for his mother. The femme was glad he seemed to trust her with the information of what his mother was doing, but frowned a little at his anxiety. “Well, I don’t know what you went through and I don’t want to pry,” she said, “but I don’t think you need to worry too much. As I said, by the way you talk she seems strong and she has the pack to look after her. I’ve not been here long, but from the family feel I doubt they’d let anything happen to her.” She tilted her head minutely, trying to see if she was helping or just idly blabbing nonsense. “Anyway, she has her son to look out for her, doesn’t she?”

Their conversation turned to one about the crows in a natural transition and the atmosphere lightened up once more, a laugh billowing from Mae as they speculated over why the crows made so much noise. In reality it was simply a part of nature with no reason, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t fun to make up stories of the lives of other animals as you watched them.

The femme’s ears perked as Terrel mentioned the newcomers to the pack, happy at the thought of the pack growing. “I believe they’re doing well,” she nodded with a gentle smile, “I left shortly after you, but they were still accompanied by Cai. She’s more than capable in making them feel welcome.” She hoped to see the siblings again soon. They seemed friendly, the femme forward and looking more than happy to make friends whilst the male more reserved but showing no aggression. She wondered what their stories were, how they’d ended up in Saw Tooth, but those thoughts were for another time when she wasn’t having an endearing conversation with the uniquely pelted male before her. Her eyes shone with amusement as said male made to lie down, a mistake on the uneven surface surrounding them. He squirmed a little before settling and her expression was one of combined curiosity and amusement. “Comfortable?” she chuckled lightly, her tone teasing but warm.

Her head tilted visibly at his next question, her surprise evident as she partly froze. She didn’t know how to answer, unsure how he felt and not wanting to be too assuming. The femme decided to be honest with him. Her head ducked a bit as her shyness came back, ears falling slightly to the side. The sandy highlights around her eyes and white mask stood out more when she sat in such a way. “I’d say we were friends,” she spoke softly with a careful tone, “At least, I’d like us to be.”

OOC: Woo longness :D Terrel's question was adorable :P
