aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The brute’s plume wagged, and his pretense of Alpha relaxed… though he had originally stiffened up to get used to meeting lupines and strangers at the border with the aires of Alphadom, such aires were not needed when he was only in the presence of Leila. She was like Kong, a dear friend, and he trusted her, and knew that he could be himself around her. Once the fae caught sight of him, the fae raised herself from the ground and swayed unsteadily until one of her legs shot out to steady her. Salutations Kalgalath. His audettes swiveled toward her as she spoke, and he found that he had missed her sweet soprano. The fae’s kissers curled into a smile, and she stepped nearer to him. Look at you! Kally’s gone and bagged himself the alpha’s rank! Well, aren’t you going to invite me in – if I recall I am entitled to a tour around your territory, right?

Kal nodded – he had indeed promised her a tour of the terra. And yet he didn’t laugh. Though he knew that she was making a joke, his mind was busy thinking… She had yet to announce whether this was but a social call, or whether she was seriously considering joining and becoming a member of the Aurora Borealis pack. But that was no matter – the brute had promised her a tour, and he always kept his promises. In addition, he knew Leila, and knew that she would make her true intentions known once she wanted them to be known. Her high-energy monologue caused his own kissers to curl up in a grin. “Aye, Leila, I did indeed win the vote for the position of Alpha. Aside from the pair running against me, it was a unanimous vote. Such a vote of confidence was reassuring… I can only hope that I can live up to their expectations.” The brute was brutally honest with her, knowing that no other lupines were within hearing distance of them. He could be honest with her and trust her with his true feelings – she had already weeded out from him some of his guarded fears. The brute would not even try to hide things from her, so long as they were alone. But in the presence of other lupines, Kalgalath imagined it would be different…

He had just been voted in to the position of Alpha, and had taken control of a pack with depleted ranks that had fallen apart after Sin’s death. It was vulnerable now, and he could not allow others to see him as weak, or silly. He needed to be seen as a strong, new leader, one that would lead Aurora Borealis out of its morose mourning and give it a new start. Give it hope. Give it life. In order to do that, Kalgalath had to prevent other packs preying upon his own.

Come, Leila. You have my permission to cross the boundary, be it just for the tour I promised you, or for your admission to the pack.” The brute added on the second half to his sentence to let Leila know that he was trying to figure out her intentions, and yet at the same time not pressuring her for an immediate answer. The brute turned to start the tour. Though the aire of his presence had relaxed, his body was still held with more pride than it ever had before. His black, grey, and white coat rustled as the brute’s haunches launched him forward, toward the depths of his pack. He chooses to start with the one true path through the terra.

The path led toward the center of the terra, to the clearing where the vote had just occurred. The path was worn – it was mostly likely an old herd path for migrating prey animals… for now, they used it just to get to the pack meeting area. The brute kept his pace to a walk, wanting to enjoy his time with Leila. He attempted to short his stride, for his long, muscled legs would naturally far outpace her, and he did not want that at all. “We will go to the center of the packlands first… there is a peaceful clearing there that is free of the conifers that so thickly cover this terra. It is quite peaceful there, and sometimes at night, you can see the northern lights. That’s where this pack got its name, I believe.” The brute fell silent, have no doubts that Leila would have a lot to say – she always did.
