aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

The grey titan slowly, leisurely made his way through the dense thickets of woods. He inhaled deeply, the rich scent of the various plants that were abundant throughout the terra invading his nares and relaxing him. This was his home. He had come to know the position of each of the great, ancient trees that grew tall in the rich soil. Occasionally, he lifted his leg to leave his mark when he drifted close to the boundary, simply reinforcing the invisible wall that marked the edge of his terra. His pack had grown by leaps and bounds since he had taken over command of it as Alpha. Unlike most Alphas, he had not challenged the previous Alpha for the position – he had been voted in by the previous members due to the well-mourned loss of its previous leader, Sin. Though some would say that it was detrimental to his leadership, since he had not had to fight for his position therefore not showing his strength, he believed that it spoke volumes about his personality and morals. The wolves of the pack had entrusted him with the pack’s well-being; had entrusted him with their lives. And in return, he honored them with his loyalty to them and their safety.

His reign, though relatively short in comparison to many of the packs, had been eventful. An alliance was forming between his pack and Saw Tooth, and there was the possibility that one would form also between his pack and Munashii Gekko, though he had heard naught from Serris. The strength of his pack had grown infinitely with a large influx of new members, though many of them were pups. The young would grow, however, into strong warriors eventually. Until then, he would make sure that they had a safe puphood.

The news was that there were many battles going on for the position of Alpha in various other packs. Bright Moon, for one, had been challenged in Tamlin’s absence. Kalgalath had been working very hard to keep up to date on all of the other packs. Ignorance could be dangerous, and there was no need for it. And so Kalgalath was strengthening his borders, and now it was time to form a more functional and cohesive pack. The mottled grey titan changed his direction with a slight smile upon his maw. His goal now was the clearing at the center of the terra, the quiet peaceful meadow where he had been voted into the rank that he now firmly held. Rain had been profuse as of late, but with the strong rays of sunlight that were now shining down on the earth, the ground had firmed up. His pads left clear indentations in the moist soil, his claws extended to give added grip to each stride. The brute wove his way through the dense trees that were thickly found in the pack lands until the treeline stopped suddenly. All sound went silent quickly as he strode out into the open for a moment, and a few birds took flight. Kalgalath paused just a moment to close his lids and inhale deeply, enjoying the scent of the wet grass that seeped into his nares, but then he was off again.

With purpose, he strode to the slight high point of the clearing, where a large rock was firmly set, its base deeply set into the ground and its flat peak jutting out two feet above the grass covered land. His haunches tightened slightly as he jumped onto the boulder, the move graceful and smooth. He stood erect, his tail curling upward slightly as his maw tilted toward the sky and opened, letting loose a howl, beckoning forth every member of his pack, and all who were looking for permission of membership. The Alpha then tilted his cranium downward, his icy gaze turning to the edge of the meadow, awaiting the arrival of his pack.

He had put off the meeting for too long, but he had wanted to wait for the return of Zig from Saw Tooth, so that he could receive the news from her. Her scent had just crossed his nares earlier in the day, so there was no point in putting it off any longer. He wanted there to be no strangers in his family, and wanted to reward his most loyal members for their hard work. It was time.
