At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

The femme stifled a laugh as he tried fruitlessly to chew to, and then nodded approvingly as he finally swallowed. Zev had lain himself down them, being careful of his leg, and his tail laying alongside his body. Thank you. Athene nodded, a faint smile laying upon her kissers. The fae limped back into the woods in order to find some poppy seeds for herself, knowing that the pain would soon return in full force once the adrenaline left her veins, and she wanted the poppy to start working its magic before that point. Then she grabbed some moss and chewed up the bitter herb until it melded into a paste and spread it gently upon her leg, but not before examining it. By her ankle, all of her pelt had been ripped exposing the tender fleshes underneath. It was bleeding freely but it would heal fine, just as long as she kept it clean and poulticed with helpful healing herbs. Her tongue spread the moss paste over the stripped flesh, wincing as she did so – the adrenaline was indeed wearing off, and the poppy had not been digested enough to start to numb her bodice. Slowly, the fae made her way back to the brute, keeping her hind leg as immobile as possible so as to not shake off the moss. Her awkward step reminded her of the slice along her rib cage that she had gotten from her fall. The flesh stretched with each step, the edges of the scab cracking and coming loose, fresh bodily fluids beginning to leak out of it. Athene began to take smaller strides, not wanting to upset its clotting once again, so it took longer to return to the brute than expected, but when she did, she collapsed next to the brute, her neck laying over his shoulder to use it as a cushion, her bodice positioned in such a way that her ribs were not stretched out on the earth, and her injured leg hung from her hip carefully so that the moss would not be rubbed off. “What a pair we make, limping with each step we take. Injured as we are we need a rest, though for now we are without den or nest. But contented I am to merely lay, next to you being warmed by the sun ray.” After she fell silent, she realized that once more she was touching the brute, and found that once more, contact with him was comforting, relaxing, safe. But was her invasion of his space ill-wanted or ill-received? Not wanting to speak more, or address the issue straight on, she moved slightly away from him so that her paws hung just so into the cool water and her head rested there instead of upon Zev. Her honey eyes stared fixatedly into the water, noticing the fish that resisted the strong current of the cascade. As her gaze adjusted to the water’s edge, she realized that the whole of the cascade was full of leaping fish – it must be their mating season, for they were travelling to find their mates. The presence of the watery prey made Athene’s mind switch to focus upon her sister, Hellene, who with all of her faults excelled at herblore and fishing. “Hellene…” And that was when the light colored femme realized how long she had been gone from the pack lands. From her sister. Without a word or explanation.
