Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

“Do you know what the problem with this pack land is, hmm?”

I paused momentarily once more, blackened claws resting at the edge of the Taviora border, head turning to incline back towards my companion, violet gaze resting against the gold of Devils own. It has been a long time, to long, perhaps, since my oldest friend and I have taken any time to wander from Diveen and yet, I suppose, the both of us are content to- well…..bask in the sun. I hardly see how that makes either of us old. In fact, I’m rather inclined to think that simply makes us exceptionally talented in the conservation of energy. Hmm, perhaps I should at that to my many titles. Heyel, the Assassin King, The Jester King, King of Moladion, King of Conserving Energy. Seems fitting. I smirked lightly at my own internal humour, one eye lifting, waiting for Devil to ask what I though the problem with the land was, gaze meeting his own, the black male evidently attempting to keep his stoic silence and not further continue this conversational flow.

“Glad you asked. The problem is the trees. There are far to many, the shadows only grow longer and deeper the further in we go, it prevents the borders from being adequately observed and why, Malina, do we need to keep an eye on borders?”

I turned this time to my apprentice, though indeed an assassin in her own right now and despite her….transgressions I am still content to favour her as I often have. I very near raised her as my own, she walked beside me for years and that is not easily forgotten and indeed while perhaps she has changed over the years and very near reeks of another female although heaven knows why…some part of me still….cares for the girl whom used to play in my shadow, who had watched over Valkyrie with me, whom ad talked and teased and tested every rule I knew. She is, perhaps, not the girl she used to be. She is quieter, duller….older maybe and yet even when I look at her I am sure something has changed within her, something is different and yet even I am not so sure what it is. She is just not…..the hot-headed, vibrant, bright creature she used to be. Perhaps she simply grew up, I hardly know, regardless I grow tired of useless nostalgia, waiting for the girl to answer before returning my attention to my Neveah to ensure she was listening, after all, how often is my child given the privilege of time with myself, her Uncle and one of my better apprentices. I dipped my head, nudging the black girl forward before moving to step over the border myself. I hardly know if Coza has been told we are coming- I hardly care. I never did like boundaries.

“This pack is also decidedly to….bushy. I’m surprised anyone can ever find anything.”

It was more a muttering complaint then anything else, eyes rolling at my own comment before breaking into a lope, easily keeping pace with Devil, pleased to be by his side once more- after all, there are precious few I trust so much, precious few with whom I have held a friendship so strong and so old. Of all the wolves in Moladion, aside from my own mate, it is Devil to whose call I will always answer. I lifted my muzzle momentarily to the sky, testing for any trace of the scent of any of Moths children, having formed a distinct distaste for the lot of them after my last visit. Satisfied we were alone I pressed forward once more, halting abruptly, head jerking back towards Neveah. If she wanted to learn, she might as well learn right.

“Neveah…..I can see all your paw prints and I can hear you crunching on the snow. You are blacked pelted Baby Girl, the snow will not hide you as it does me, you need to learn to work against this disadvantage, see how Malina and you uncle Devil walk? Learn from them.”

I moved forward a final time, dropping lower and into the forest, much of the ground here free of snow, the white ice and frost unable to penetrate the thickness of the trees and yet still the forest was riddled with scents, wolf and prey alike. To find a single drop of blood from an attack some weeks ago was not impossible, no, but it was hardly easy and yet…..I had something akin to faith in the wolves I had brought with me.

“Malina, Neveah- head out that way. I am told the attack occurred here, yet that Tobias moved in that direction after he severed the limb, pick up any scent you can, he was injured there will be a trail in some regard or another, find it.”

I paused, assuring neither my daughter nor Malina saw fit to argue. After all, I still out rank them both. I paused then beside Devil, when paw seeping at the cold ground beneath us, brushing at the light covering of frost and the faintest scent that lingered below it, gesturing for Devil to inspect what I’d found.

“This, I am rather assured is where it happened, the question this leaves for us, is from where did Tobias come. He may have moved back the way he came.”

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
