I had always hated the rain. It came down hard now; the cold water had soaked into my coat until it met with skin. I had been running to try and keep warm but it did little to help. The lightning flashed across the sky once and seconds later the rumble of thunder roared. I had lost my way after leaving Enocra Woodland, at one point having to cross a river, which was scary on its own and had almost killed me. This wasn’t my first time suffering in isolation, but it was becoming grueling work, oh how nice it would be to have someone to keep warm… I had found myself in some craggy place, the land seemed ruined by some great ancient earthquake and finding my way through the rocks was dangerous work. The fastest I could go here was a trot, making my travel slow, rain made the rocks more slippery than usual and I had to be careful where I put my feet.
By the time I neared the mouth of the cave I had slowed to a walk. The rain still poured, though it seemed it had slowed a bit. My pelt was soaked, the excess water dripped from the ends of the hair. I can faintly smell another male from outside the cave and I take a moment to myself before stepping foot inside the shelter. Emerald eyes flicker up to find a young but large male wolf watching my entrance. I shake the water from my pelt and liquid sprays across the cave walls. I smile up at the male, my voice a purr when I speak, alluring and soft.
"I just hate the rain.” I draw closer to him; mere inches apart when I speak again, “Don’t you?”
At that, I turn from him and sprawl out on the cold ground below his perch, my eyes still watching him. The boy was just that, a boy. Though we looked the same weight, I could not tell how tall he was. As I study him, I note that he hadn’t even bothered to shake the rain from his fur, something that would have driven me up the damn wall if it had been my own coat. The rain outside was a slow and steady downpour. I had an itching that sooner or later someone else ought to walk through the cave entrance, if only to get away from the storm outside. I turn my attention back to the black and gray male with icy blue eyes, my tranquil voice echoing against the walls of the cave,
"It’s a shame you’re not older.”
I wink at him with an amorous smile on my lips. I lay my elegant snout across my front legs, watching as the rain falls rhythmically and the occasional lighting illuminates the sky.
