aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

....................................................................................................................................................................................

Kalgalath, in the silence of the night, had teared up next to his mate and shed hidden tears while his pups slept. Magic had been his friend since the very beginning of time - or at least since Kalgalath had taken the throne. He had been present in the pack for a few weeks longer than Magic and her mate had been - they in fact had only arrived once King Kong had called for a pack meeting once the grieving period for Sin's death had passed. Many had vied for the position of alpha, for the throne... But with King Kong's support Kalgalath had won. And even though Magic and her mate wanted the throne, they never fought him for it and were never anything but loyal. All of them had been, once upon a time. But of all the wolves that had been at that fateful meeting, Kalgalath was the only that remained. King Kong had been present and absent, in and out, but it seemed that Kal's oldest friend had finally met the point of no return for he had been gone for well over a year. And now Magic... She too had left. She had given her reasons - she needed time to deal with personal problems. But it did not hurt any less that she was not comfortable enough within the pack to deal with her problems there. Kalgalath had seen it coming, of course - she had been more absent recently, and had not complained even when her rank had been lowered.

Still, he had to be thankful for activity present within his pack - he had high levels of wolves, all of them active and useful, and he had finally implemented the system that he had always desired - a way for every wolf to fulfill their destiny and desires. Only one of those slots had been filled so far, but Kalgalath was confident that at this meeting, at least a few of the others would be as well. Hellene had not really needed an introduction to the pack in her role as shaman - or rather as the head healer - for even without the title she had performing her tasks dutifully. The mottled brute was interested to see who would be interested in the other positions.

Pads rubbed against the ground as he trotted around the last curve of the border and rubbed his shoulder up against the side of a tree, transferring his scent onto the bark along with some loose furs - it had been what he had been doing this entire trip around the territory - ensuring that his scent was strong in case anyone dared to think to attempt to steal his pack. Inhaling deeply, he smelled only his scent, and with a smile he turned his nose to face the interior and picked up speed, easing into first a lope and then a head long gallop. The wind rushed past him strongly, and needles pulling at his coat but he did not slow or hesitate at all in each step. Each stride was sure for this pack had been his home for years now... And he knew it as well as he knew himself.

With the fast pace, he made it to his destination within an hour and leapt atop of his throne, daggers clawing on the rock surface and making gouges as they did every time he leapt upon it. As his body stilled and he skidded to a halt, his nape pulled back his cranium and his maw opened. A deep, throaty howl pulled from between his lips, a croon calling to those loyal to him. It was loud and long so that its lyrics would sweep throughout the forest and reach each and every nook, cranny, and crevice. All within there would hear the call and be pulled to him. If they were were far away, it would take them perhaps an hour or two to reach him, maybe more if they dawdled.... But he would wait for them patiently until they arrived - until all of his family was gathered together again.
