10 things you probably didn't know about Bohdi
1.) "Bohdi" is a Sanskrit name meaning "wisdom, enlightenment" (also spelled Bodhi, sometimes Bodhin). I didn't pick her name for the meaning, though, and only found out it was an actual name later. :P

2.) In Bohdi's culture, men and women share duties equally for most things, and the idea of working together (within the clan) is very important. That being said, inheritance and leadership is strictly matriarchal; men take their wife's last name and, if from another tribe, leave their own to join her's, women control the money/lands, and a woman is always the Jarl (leader).

3.) It is a common practice where Bohdi is from to steal/kidnap people in order to have them join your clan. This is most commonly done with strong/desireable males and/or young male children; taking a female child is usually considered an act of war, UNLESS the child is at least the third child in the family and at least the second female born. The family of the taken individual has one week to retrieve their stolen clan members, usually through "stealing" them back and/or challenging their captor or the captor's Jarl to a one-on-one battle. If they are unable to retrieve their family member before the time is up, the stolen person becomes an official member of their new clan and their family must accept this or risk starting a war. Most marriages within the clan are the result of the woman stealing her new husband from his original tribe, then wooing him until he agrees to the ceremony.

4.) Family is a big thing to Bohdi's people, but blood is not. In order to become a member of the family through adoption, for example, the family undergoes a special three day long ceremony together. At the end of that ceremony the child is considered a "full blooded" member of the family and, if female, can carry on the name, inherit family belongings, etc. If a family is dying out (has no strong, healthy female to carry on the name), it is a common practice to "purchase" a young female child from another family within the clan (as long as they have another for their own family's name, of course).

5.) At a very young age, mothers cast their children into the sea. If the child swims, they are considered a full member of the clan and are called "Vandbarn" ("waterchild"). If the child does not swim, no family members are permitted to interfere and the child is allowed to drown. They see this as the child being returned to the god of the sea, that he might teach them the ways of the water before their next Birth (reincarnation). Either way this is supposed to be considered a happy thing, and it is considered inappropriate to morn the death of the child in this case.

6.) Bohdi speaks "Common" (English) decently, but will likely be quite confused about some of the more modern terms. She has a thick Danish accent when she speaks, to the point that some may struggle to understand her fully at times (especially when she's excited or angry, since she tends to overlap the Danish and Common until it's a mess).

7.) Bohdi had her "Zoolingual" ability even before coming to Shaman. One of her ancestors had the same ability and negotiated a contract with the sharks in the nearby area several generations past. The children are taught to respect them and are taught body language, etc. from a very young age to prevent irritating one or provoking an attack. It was very unusual for a member of the clan to be attacked or killed by a shark because of this, and it was believed that if they were something inside them was "rådne" (rotten) and they deserved to be killed. (Outsiders venturing into the inlet from outside, however, were fair game).

8.) Bohdi's people live in a village and venture out onto the waters daily to collect marine plant life and harvest fish. Once a month a group of three men and three women venture out into the wider sea to explore, trade, and in general live on the outside. It's a great honor to be selected for an outing and everyone takes FULL advantage of their time away from the village. They have many water-based legends because of this (they really have a thing for mermaids in particular).

9.) Bohdi is extremely curious about the world around her and is pretty much impossible to insult (well, you could try, but she'd either agree with you or point out a fault of your own thinking it's some kind of self-improvement game...). She can be wise or ignorant in equal parts, with the ability to be quite cruel (ending someone's life is a non-issue for her, and likely wouldn't even make her blink) or completely innocent.

10.) Bohdi's people love domestic cats, to the point that no household is considered complete without at least three, and kittens are given to brides on their wedding day. They are considered incredibly good luck, and supernatural beings that are thought to be friends with spirits/gods/demons/etc. Bohdi in particular can't resist squealing any time she sees a cat and usually will immediately pick them up for cuddles, whether they like it or not. "WOOK AT HIS WITTLE FACEEEEE, HE'S SO CUTE, SUCH A GOOD KITTY! *face is bleeding from scratches and cat is looking very annoyed*". hahahaha.
