aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Perhaps coming down here hadn’t been the best idea. Sera had thought that it would be a fun, new adventure for the two of them, but she hadn’t taken the time to really think of the consequences. How were they going to get out? The princess couldn’t imagine… didn’t want to imagine get stuck down here forever. Vladimir would be there with her, that was true, but it still was not how she wanted to die. Surely life had more in store for her, for them, than this. Seraphina was still young. She had only just begun to understand life and herself. What a waste to be lost in this cave for all eternity. Especially if it were to alone. The moments it took for Vlad to join her felt like hours and there was a brief panic that he would never come. Sera’s chest tightened at the thought. Maybe this had been the plan all along. To get rid of her. The princess shook her head sharply, dissipating the thoughts. It couldn’t be. Even if neither of them would say it, their feelings were real. Indeed, Vladimir could be heard making his way down even as she banished the cloud that hung over her head.

The steely prince fell at her paws in a heap, but scrambling to his feet quick as he could. In a bout of playfulness, Sera flicked her wet tail at him, but only proved to irritate him with this as a growl came from the boy. She rubbed against his flank, mixing their contrasting coats again, and wrapped her plume around his, which seemed to calm him. The princess spoke softly, though her vocals still sounded loud as they reverberated in the cavern. Gently, Vladimir pulled her first to one side and then the other before exclaiming, “Well… I suppose we should go that way.” He laughed and the sound alone seemed to bring light into the darkness of the cave. “Come on Sera, let's see where this leads.” The pair traveled in silence, Vlad concentrating on the ground in front of them for loose stones. It wasn't long before the walls began to close in on the vargs, pressing into their sides like an unlike third member of their party. “Sera, we are going to have to go in single file. Grab onto my tail… but don’t bite down too hard! You'll mess up my perfect balance.” Seraphina rolled her eyes, but grinned nonetheless. Her daggers gently fixed themselves on Vlad’s tail and the pair continued on. They moved slowly, cautiously, and it was impossible to tell how far they had travelled. All the princess knew was that they were going straight. “Sera… you are going to feel the cavern’s top soon. Don’t get nervous, we will just crawl. If it gets too much smaller we will just back out.” Vladimir felt it first, of course. He was taller than she was. She didn’t mind small spaces much, so long as she could move and breathe. And with Vlad here with her there was no reason for her to be afraid. Though getting stuck was certainly a real and present danger, Seraphina convinced herself that it wouldn’t happen to them.

As they inched forward, the pair began to hunker down until they really were crawling. If the ceiling was pressing on the princess’ back, it must have been more uncomfortable for Vladimir. They went on for some time like this, until Seraphina nearly pressed up onto the prince, not realizing that he had stopped. Immediately she scooted back to give him room to move and wriggle back if he thought that the path was too small. The bruteling’s paws kicked at the earth and Sera let go of his tail. Surely he wasn’t stuck. There was no way Vlad was stuck. She refused to accept that. Still, the ethiopianess couldn’t help but hold her breath as she heard the scene play out. After what felt like days, Vladimir moved and scrambled to his feet, gasping for air. Seraphina let out her breath, relieved. “Seraphina… Sera are you alright?”

Now it was her turn to squeeze through. It would be an easier time for her, with her small frame, but it wasn’t going to be pleasant. Sera pushed herself forward, letting out a deep breath both to calm herself and make herself as small as possible. Not daring to take another, the firebird crept through the narrowest part of the cavern. The walls pressed on her sides and dampness transferred from them to her, the rough stone grating against her skin. It wasn’t enough to do any damage, but it was painful nonetheless. Slowly, she squirmed her way through the confining space until at least a sense of freedom came over her and she popped to her feet. This part of the cavern was, thankfully, larger than before. Seraphina’s emeralds could just make out Vladimir’s outline, though it did feel as though there was more light here than previously. Perhaps she was just getting used to the darkness. “I am now.” She cocked her head at the prince. “Are you alright, Vlad?” The difficulty he’d had getting here hadn’t gone unnoticed by Sera. She padded over to him and nuzzled his shoulder gently. Her copper crown twisted to look back. “I guess we won’t be going back that way.” A small laugh fell from her maw. “Do you still want to keep going?”
