How Unexpected

She'd taken to padding along the bank now, Ritsuko's dark and light coat ruffling with the breeze that blew through, a spring in her step. She hadn't been in this part of the mountain for long, choosing to meander her way through, so the young fey had little clue as to what could live or be out and about this day. In the warmer seasons, she'd often seen fish jump through the splashing current, a bear or two trying to nab the occasional salmon. Few deer came here, mothers taking their young to less treacherous places. Even new wolf mothers steered clear of the river, fear for their pups falling on delicate shoulders. But now, with winter in full bloom, they would have little to worry about. The river was slower than it was in the warmer months, Ritsuko's yellow eyes watching it with a puppy like curiosity.

Her acoustic swiveled, the sound of footsteps in the snow reaching her sensitive ears. They were fast paced, a hop like sound. A deer? The femme turned her multicolored cranium, ears perked at attention. Her stance shifted, her head dropping to get a better look. Her neck fur looked bristled though it truly wasn't. A second pair of footsteps echoed after the first, a sound Ritsuko knew well. The scent that tinged her nose only confirmed it. Another wolf was in the area, a male by the scent of it.

They broke through the treeline yards a head of her, the deer quickly out pacing the canine that followed. Snow flew up at their path, a spray she could only describe as the mist from Misty Island. The way he moved, this sudden being, spoke of his experience with the area, flying over a fallen tree so easily he looked to be flying. The doe crossed the land quickly, making a smooth ark over the frozen water. She landed with a quiet thump before jumping off, the wolf who'd chased her now standing somberly at the bank. His pelt was black though it didn't look.... black. The silver on the tips of his fur lightened him considerably. It must be hard for him to hide out here, with all this snow.

But he was a new face, and a new face meant company, so Ritsuko started for him. The femme wanted to bounce right up and nip his flank or something, her excitement bubbling, but he was a stranger, and she was smart enough to know not to just barge right up.

"Hello," she called, her voice smooth and sweet. It held an innocence one only heard from pups. "The deer outran you, I saw." Ritsuko giggled, glancing out towards the opposite side of the river. She'd never gone for big game, not like he'd been doing. The youth knew not to go for them without help, because even if one got them pinned, their hooves were definitely made for defense, if they didn't have antlers. "You should be more careful with your meal choice, deer are cruel if you get them pinned." Yellow hues lit with amusement, a smile twitching at the corner of her maw. She sat a few paces from him, curling a chocolate tail around her left hind leg. Her gaze didn't waver as she waited to see what he'd say, what he'd do.
