all alone just the beat inside my soul
where my dreams are made of gold
Cade had warned her about the beasts that lurked, and, to be honest, she was more fearful of being alone in the woods, than alone in the grotto. She could hide here, she could mask her scent with the herbs and moss, she could defend herself here. Though, her true stash of nasties were hidden in their den in the woods, she knew better than to let her brother know that though. She wasn’t ready to explain to him why she had all these destructive plants. She usually hid them underneath her healing pile. She’d put it all to good use one day. He’d see.
This mushroom was the final piece of her poison plants, this one, could and would kill, the others would poison and cripple in pain, but this is what she needed. She didn’t know why she did. Maybe it was part of her thinking. She never thought things were pure good, no, she always looked at both sides of the world, the good and the bad. She knew she had to be prepared for whatever may come her way. Whatever evils would look to hurt another. She’d be ready, she knew it. Adding the mushrooms to the pile of moss, she grinned to herself. Yes, she’d be ready.
She sat when she finished piling them atop the moss, thinking about whether she should wait out the night here in the darkness of the grotto, or venture out to head to the den. But she figured, in the long run It was better to stay here, and ask forgiveness from Cade in the morning, than do it now and be stuck listening to him gripe all night long.
She paused in her musings to herself, her nose lifting as the scent of another coming closer was brought forth. The slight wind from outside drew it in. She turned her head, vivid eyes watching the dark wolf draw closer. When it was close enough, the scent showed it was a male, though, she wondered if she should be weary of him, but that faded when she heard his words. A grin spread across her face as she laughed lightly. “I’m just gathering more plants to add to my arsenal, my mom taught me of healing. This is the best place to find the deadliest mushrooms, didn’t you know?” She smiled coyly. She looked down at them before looking back to him.
“Ah, the beasts? Yes, I’ve heard. I’ve yet to see one on my explorations at night, maybe that means I’m good luck. I’m Jubilee, by the way.”
