aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

As each stride brought her closer to Vlad, Sera was half expecting him to bolt, as he’d done last time. But the prince didn’t move, merely averted his gaze and she couldn’t help but wonder if he desperately wanted to run and simply couldn’t bring himself to. Like how she knew that she shouldn’t go to him, that if she did then she wouldn’t be able to leave if the time came, but she still approached. Sera stopped before she reached Vlad, recognizing that getting to close to him or initiating contact might set him off. From what Seraphina had picked up in their time together, Vlad was tough, but he was also sensitive. Not in the sense that every little thing upset him, but in the way that he felt emotion deeply. He was undoubtedly still hurting and that meant giving him space.

In her surprise to see him, Sera had stuttered out a “What are you doing here?” It was nothing against him, more the apprehension and acceptance of what this meant for her. Though there had been no harm or malice behind the simple question, a tidal wave of fury was unleashed from the prince.

“What am i doing here? I am Prince Vladimir, I am the heir to these lands. My parents left me and took Castiel even though they made it clear that we were both to stay. I am here because this is my home, this is where I live, where I was born, where I sleep, and where I will likely die! Why are you here Seraphina?” Copper ears swung back and flattened, stepping back as each statement was punched out. Sera had seen Vlad angry before - it wasn’t difficult to flare his temper - but this was on a whole new level. Furious didn’t even begin to cover it. For the first time, Sera was scared of Vlad. “Why have you not left with you and yours - after all your parents bade you to leave with them, unlike mine I might add. Plus don’t you have to go get married? Won’t your betrothed be looking for you?” Sera’s eyes found the ground. Vlad knew how to hit her where it hurt, but it was fair, she supposed. It was her fault that they were - that he was - like this.

For a moment, Vlad turned away and Seraphina thought that he was done with his tirade. But just as quickly his head jerked to face her again. “Why did you even come here at all Sera if all you were going to do is rip my heart out!?” If it had been anyone else, at any other time, Seraphina would have retaliated and pushed back. That was her nature. For once, however, she did not fight. He was right after all. Though the last part had never been her intention, it was a consequence of her actions. Maybe… maybe it would be better if she left. Her presence only seemed to hurt Vladimir and his hurt her. Perhaps it would be better for both of them. Vlad would find someone else, someone who would not betray his trust and rip his heart out. Someone who would not cause him pain. With a trembling jaw, she opened her mouth to speak, when a scream cut her off.

Vlad fell before her and began to scrape at his eyes. Blood slicked his face and paws and Sera watched in panic, her chest heaving. She had never seen anything this gruesome or upsetting before and seeing Vlad in such a state especially caused her heart to clench in fear. What could she do? What could she do?!” “Vlad! Vlad, please stop!” She managed to force out. Sera could feel the hot trails that tears were forming on her cheeks. Please! It was stupid, the princess knew it was, but in her heart of hearts she wanted to believe that she might get through to him.

Then the prince suddenly stilled. Sera’s heart soared, thinking what ever had come over him had passed. But as her panic gaze skimmed over him, she realized that he had not just stopped moving, but breathing as well. A choked sob rose from her throat, but no sooner could it escape her then her chest rose once more. It took all she had not to break down crying right then and there, settling for quiet sniffles tears of joy and relief. As Vlad moved to stand, and unsteady as a lamb, her eyes swept the earth beside him and stopped on blue and gold in the dirt. They looked like his eyes and Sera looked back to the prince in horror. Had he truly scratched his own eyes out?

“... Sera…? What… what?” Vlad peered up at her and Sera’s breath caught when their eyes met. Gone was the arctic blue rimmed with gold, in its place a pure, electric blue. It was odd, but did not bother her. She was just happy that he was alive at the moment.

“Your eyes are different…” The princess trailed off, stepping closer to him. Hopefully she had stopped crying by now. “Vlad, you… you died.” She bit her lip to rein in the tears. There was no way to sugar coat this. “You screamed and collapsed and… and you started scratching your eyes and you died.” Sera’s voice trembled and she finally closed the gap between them, so close that their noses were almost touching. Sera locked eyes with Vlad. They were so different than what she was used to, but Vlad was Vlad, no matter what he looked like. It was who he was that she loved. “And I was scared that you were going to leave me before I could tell you…” She took a shaky breath and decided to just go for it.

“Before I could tell you that I love you.”
