aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

S E R A P H I N A

Though her eyes darted about in search for Vlad, they did not have to look far to find him. He had stood over her as the earth shifted, protecting her, and had only moved a few steps back. At the sight of his unharmed form, Sera relaxed slightly. The sudden change in their surroundings still confused and unsettled her greatly, but as long as she had her prince - her soulmate she reminded herself, heart fluttering at the thought - then she had no doubt that everything would be fine. Vlad nuzzled her shoulder gently in comfort, his voice calm as he reassured her. His gaze wandered as he began to answer her question and he shook his head.

“I do not know the answer to that question, Sera.” The princess nodded in understanding, biting her lip. It was rather silly to think that he’d have the answers to everything after all. This was all new to Vlad as well and it wasn’t like the change he’d undergone had suddenly made him all knowing. The two events had to be related, Vlad reasoned, but how he did not know. “But I do know that the world is suddenly a very dangerous place, for me ,for you, and for everyone else. I know there are… others… that I am meant to protect. Not like us, but different. I am not quite sure how to explain it. All the words were foreign to me, and yet I had no problem understanding them at a time, but now it seems like it was a dream. I…” A wave of exhaustion seemed to come over Vlad and Sera moved closer to offer him her shoulder should he need it.

“I need rest, my heart. My body has little strength left and I fear I cannot make it very far.” He pointed out a trunk and moved towards it, fatigue evident in his every step. Sera followed him, carefully watching his moves to catch him if he were to fall. The prince did not, however, and settled down. Seraphina watched him for a moment, a soft smile playing across her lips. Vlad looked so at peace like this. She moved carefully to curl up with him, doing her best to move so she would not wake him accidentally (though he had been so tired it would likely take more than a bit of movement on her part to do so). The princess couldn’t help but blush a bit. The pair were young and inexperienced in so much and this was as intimate as they’d ever been. It wasn’t much, but it still meant something to Sera. She didn’t sleep immediately, opting to keep alert in case, but eventually as the night fell she too grew weary and her emeralds closed.

Morning greeted Sera with a chill, the telltale sign that fall had arrived. The princess curled up tighter, trying to ignore the dew that had formed along her side. Her eyes were squeezed shut, trying to remember why exactly she had been sleeping outside in the first place when she knew that the colder seasons were hard on her. The events of the past day flooded back and Sera noticed how warm the other side of her body was. Her emeralds opened slowly, allowing themselves to adjust to the sudden brightness, and she turned her head every so slightly to see Vlad, his fur catching the golden light and ringing him in it like an otherworldly being. A smile graced her kissers as she recalled their newfound bond and she pushed her nares into his neck gently and nuzzled him. With effort, Sera pulled herself away from Vlad and her half warm sleeping place and stood, stretching and shaking. As she was already awake, she might as well catch breakfast for them.

Seraphina returned when the sun had climbed a bit higher in the sky. The new terra had confused her and it had taken a bit of time to find prey and to find her way back to her starting point, scent dampened by the mouthwatering rabbit in her maw. But she eventually did return and announced to Vlad, who she couldn’t quite see to tell if he was awake or not, “It’s time for breakfast, sleepyhead.” After the day he’d had, it only made sense to be exhausted, but Sera couldn’t help but tease him a bit. Love would never change her that much. “Sleeping out in the open like this simply won’t do, especially now that it’s cold. What do you say we spend today exploring and look for a place for our den?” Seraphina felt butterflies at the thought of “our den” and she bit her lip to keep her from smiling like a lovestruck teenager. Well, she was one, but that was beside the point. It still felt so unreal to her.
