No, she had not been in the ocean.

The cogs in his brain turned.

�So you are from here then? The crossing?� he asked, though it was less of a question and more of a curious statement. He hadn�t met anyone who lived on the crossing before. He hadn�t met anyone that lived anywhere but the forest in fact � well, except for the strange, pale stallion that had spoken with his mother last season, but he didn�t count. He was old and boring and seemed to put the adults on edge. The filly seemed like she could be fun and, apart from giving him a fright, couldn�t put anyone on edge.

He manoeuvred around to face her, halting his arc. �It is indeed, the ocean that surrounds these islands." He confirmed. "It is a fierce and unruly foe, that shows no mercy to the weak. It is there to be conquered, but.� He paused for a beat (and for effect), �It is not an easy task. It cannot be tamed and it will not obey, but we can survive it. We can even use it to take us to many strange and beautiful lands.� there was a passion in his tone, dynamic and engaging, his bright eyes alight with the fire for adventure.

He paused again, and cast her a curious look.

�There are more islands you know? More than just four others that we can see when we stand on the shore. There are lands so vast that it would take you years just to cross from one side to the other.� His mother had spoken of them, she�d even seen some of them. He hoped he would see them one day too. �The water is not the only danger, however. The ocean is home to many great sea monsters � some friendly, others who would shallow you whole.� He hoped he would see those too.
