AND SO IT BEGINS

YEVA
After her encounter with the two stallions, Valter and Nuru, Yeva had not gotten any further in her explorations than the meadow. While she was curious, she also knew that she should know at least one place on the island inside out before venturing to the next. She knew the safe places to rest now and where provided the best food, water and shelter. If the other parts of the island she explored were not as plentiful, she could come back as she needed too. Today had been a warm day, and she had spent most of it in the shade planning which direction for explore once the evening and cooler temperatures rolled in. Ultimately, she chose to follow the distant sound of rumbling water; the same direction she saw the most foot traffic back and forth.

The bay mare kept within the cover of the sparse thicket, her ears twirling this way and that as she trotted briskly on her chosen route. There were other equine nearby, some alone and others in small groups but Yeva wasn’t sure she wished to intrude, so left them be. She didn’t want to give anyone a fright by just popping up out of nowhere, especially if they weren’t looking for company. Perhaps if she was to see someone out in the open, she could approach them, or even let them approach her but for now, she just carried on alone.

“Pox!” She cursed suddenly, lurching forward violently as her foreleg became entangled in a vine of ivy. With a snort and a heavy thud, she landed on her knees in front of two complete strangers, both stallions. “Üzr, üzr” the mare called out hastily, fumbling and slipping in the moist earth more and more as her embarrassment rose,“sorry, sorry”. Now would be a great time for a rogue bolt of lightning to strike her or for the earth to open up and to swallow her whole, she thought. Eventually, muttering apologies all the way, she finally found her footing and unable to look them in the eye, chanced a glance at the pair. One sported a flashy coat and the other was impossibly large. She’d heard of the gods breeding with normal horses to produce giants; trust her to fall almost flat on her face in front of one
