It was going to take a little work to keep himself behaving in a pleasant manner and not making any faces whatsoever. Being here on Crossing Isle was too close a reminder of who he was supposed to be and the hell he was meant to be raising. Not for the first time he glanced over at Talya (smiling her wide, happy smile with her bright eyes) and considered finding a way to ditch her somewhere so he could slink back to the Lagoon and get back to the business he was so damn good at. But Talya looked over at him while he was watching her and her smile faded just a bit, her expression more akin to a puzzled puppy, wondering why he was looking at her with that funny look on his face. Psychedelic blinked and felt a little squeeze in his chest at the thought of leaving her behind – to get her to stop following around would take an act of God, and he wasn’t ready to tell her to get going while he chucked rocks at her just yet.

Instead, Psychedelic looked back at their company (noticing she kept her eyelids closed as they spoke as he couldn’t see the gleam of her irises) and wondered if maybe she was blind. PERFECT! What luck?! Of course he’d find a blind horse! Fate was grinning down on him for some reason, even though Psychedelic didn’t know what that reason was.

“You weren’t presumptuous at all,” he smiled, even though she couldn’t see it with her eyes closed surely she could hear the warmth he pushed into his tone. Psychedelic may have been better at fighting and stealing little girls from their home than he was a physiological genius, but the more he played at it the easier it was becoming. It wouldn’t be the first thing about himself he’d hid from the world, after all. “We’re grateful for the invitation.”

Talya smiled and bobbed her head, then became momentarily distracted by the willow’s branches as they caught the summer breeze and swayed, brushing against one another to create a soft, whispered rattle.

“Aurora,” Psychedelic repeated with that same ease in tone he was getting better at adapting to. “It’s our pleasure.”

Talya wandered away to prod her nose at the branches, ears pressed forward curiously. Psychedelic watched her for a minute but kept his attention mainly focused on Aurora. “I haven’t, actually.” It was getting easier and easier to lie. “I met a stallion on the mainlands who told me about this place and I couldn’t believe it without seeing it… plus, the idea there could be a home where I could keep my daughter safe but not have to rule myself is appealing.” He shifted his weight. “Never been one for a herd, really.”

If Bob’s the opposite of you, doesn’t that mean he should love the domesticated life?

Psychedelic’s ear twitched, but he ignored the question that had fired off in his brain. “The guy told me to try… Luthien, I think it was? Have you ever been?” He tried to play dumb. He’d visited Atlantis too many times when he’d been here – obsessed with the perfection which was Paradise. There weren’t enough words to explain why Salem was the worst place in the world and honestly, Tinuvel could be thrown right up there beside it. Whatever idiots kept trying to make those unlivable places their homes could just stay happily there.

Talya had apparently decided she was done investigating the willow tree’s branches and came back to their little trio. “Luthien!” She proclaimed with a happy little laugh and a wide smile. “We’re going to Luthien!” She pointed her ears and looked at the mare. “Aurora, will you come with us to Luthien?”

Psychedelic made a noise of surprise. “Talya,” he admonished gently, “you can’t just go asking everyone to join us on our adventures. You don’t even know if Aurora here has her own agenda.”

“Oh…” Talya said, frowning.
