light me up like a bottle rocket

It is a very surreal feeling to be on an island with actual territories that have leaders. Aurora isn’t sure she would’ve ever had the courage to come on her own and she will be eternally grateful that she’d run into Bob and Talya when she did.

Her eyes sweep what she assumes is the Prairie, spotting trees in the distance that probably mark the start of the Forest. She cranes her head around to look at Bob when he speaks, her expression slightly puzzled. She would hope he knows what a forest consists of, so even if he’d never been here before, he should have known to head for the trees.

She shakes it off, sure he’s just being polite and letting her lead. She gestures toward the trees and waits for Bob to summon Talya before heading off. She can feel Bob at one shoulder and Talya at the other as she canters along. An ear flicks at Talya’s proclamation but refrains from offering her own opinion in case they aren’t allowed to stay; she wouldn’t want to get her young friend’s hopes up too soon.

She slows to a trot and an eventual stop when they reach the first trees and allows the stallion to take over. He’ll have to be the one requesting residence so she moves to stand beside his daughter once his call resonates through the territory. The filtered light eases the pain in her eyes, and for once she barely registers it over the nervous pounding of her heart.

Aurora has only ever seen two lead stallions, never a mare, so she isn’t sure what to expect when she sees the shadowy figure approaching them. The mare certainly has the bearing of a leader and Aurora has to fight the urge to automatically lower her head in a sign of submission. She lets the mare’s gaze wash over her without flinching, though she does have to blink more often because she can feel her eyes beginning to water again.

She figures that Bob will know what to say when asking if they can stay. Talya will surely speak up at some point too because she’s already proven that she’s not afraid to offer her opinion. This only leaves Aurora, who doesn’t want to feel like a mere bystander. ”Good morning,” she says politely, knowing that showing manners can go a long way toward forming one’s opinion. Judging by Persephone’s businesslike expression, they’ll need to tread carefully.
