live life to the fullest

She wasn't expecting company, and she certainly wasn't expecting it to be in the form of another horse. The meadow was so full and prosperous, she was sure no other horses had been through here recently. Even the scents were fading. But sure enough, she was sure she could make out a dot growing ever closer in the water beyond the meadow where she grazed. She paid it no mind at first, figuring it was just a floating log or some kind of sea life. She didn't know a lot about the sea and what lived in it. Swimming in it wasn't bad for short periods of time but then she would panic and look for land. Her legs were lean and strong but she heard horror stories of horses drowning in the ocean or flood waters when dry land was scarce and the stories stayed with her. She continued grazing, but when the dot took form and was growing ever closer, she snorted and moved closer to the opposite edge of the meadow, giving the other horse plenty of room.

As the horse walked proudly out of the ocean, she could fully take in his physique. It was easy to tell it was a stallion. She could practically smell his testosterone from here. That put her more on edge. What kind of stallions swam across an ocean? What was his motive? Was he here to chase her off or bully her into coming back with him She snorted again, her tail swishing at her flanks in her irritation. She loathed to leave the decadent grass behind so she kept pulling up large mouthfuls, but her ears and eyes stayed trained on the red stallion as he finished coming out of the water and started through the meadow. He was a large stallion, well muscled too, so he was probably mature. He might even have his own herd, like her father did. She smelled other horses on him but it was faded from the ocean water. He was still dripping wet but he didn't seem to mind, his eyes falling on her not long after he made it into the meadow.

She lifted her head for a moment, studying him more before she turned her shoulder to him and lowered her head to graze again, her body tense in case she needed to flee. As he moved toward her, she snorted again and took another step away from him, continuing to graze but ever watchful. When he suddenly let out a whinny, her head snapped up, ears pricked toward him at first before flicking back in uncertainty. Her eyes widened, showing the white, nostrils flared, but she held her ground, taking in his body language. He seemed friendly enough, but she hadn't been around many mature stallions in her young life, not besides her father. They made her nervous. He spoke, greeting her before giving a half smirk. At his comment about the weather, she glanced around as if just noticing it. Finally she looked back at him and shrugged, her body still tense and ready to run. "I guess it is. The grass is nice. I don't know if I'd say it's swimming weather though."

She eyed the ocean he just came from nervously, ears flicking back and forth with uncertainty.
