Meadow

She walked in moon dust,

but stars were sprinkled in her hair.

The sharp smell of salty waters carried on the cool winds comes to her senses, something that has her pause in her casual munching and lift her head to face the approaching figure of a young stallion; or maybe he was just short compared to her. Did size ever really matter though, she wondered, thinking of her parents; her mother had towered over her father and yet they managed to produce her and her brother. His voice pulls her from her thoughts, ears pricking forward as she listens with the upmost patience and a gentle smile as to what he has to say. This guy was fairly nice so far, on a quest to find his family just as Feray herself was doing so she felt a bit of kinship there.

With a small shake of her head her soft voice answers him, “I’ve not seen much of anyone here except for you of course, and myself.” Feray takes a moment to look around again though, confirming her words; it was just them in this big place. Looking back to him she can’t help but to let her eyes wander, curiosity bringing her a step closer; not quite invading his space but close enough that she could truly look into those breathtaking eyes of his, the first thing she had noticed upon his approach. A memory plays itself in her mind, and before Feray can help it she finds herself asking this stallion a very strange question indeed.

“How did you get the sky trapped in your eyes? My mother told me when I was a foal that the first thing I ever saw was a beautiful clear blue sky that gave my right eye it’s color. I trapped it, my mother said, keeping that day with me forever. Did that happen to you?”, Feray’s voice was in awe, showing that despite her age Feray truly did believe what her mother told her, and she was just as innocent and naive as she was in her younger days.
