First Breath After A Coma

I would honestly love you now,
But I would lovingly let you down.

Her scent grew stronger the longer Jabari continued down this particular canopied path. With his interest piqued, the two-toned stallion continued to amble forward with his nostrils flared. Every so often he'd stop to test the humid air, and Calypso would be there, seemingly just out of reach. Eventually the trail led him to a small clearing, where just on the other side of the brush he finally caught sight of her.

The mare glittered under the sun, where rays illuminated the pale patches of her coat when they poked through the tree cover overhead. She looked so beautiful and serene in this moment. A warm smile found its way to the stallion's whiskered lips - the first genuine smile he could remember having in quite some time - as he hovered quietly in the shadows, watching Calypso and her daughter. But the longer he lingered the worse he felt. The sleeping filly reminded him of his twins back in the Prairie. It made him heartsick. And then Jabari realized that the filly was probably Rougaru's daughter.... All of it began to feel, well, not right.

But then Calypso's emerald eyes caught his. She said his name, and a chill ran down the length of his spine. He felt a warm flush rise to his chest and cheeks, and immediately he felt embarrassed for snooping. "Calypso, hi." He managed to reply, quietly as not to wake the foal. Caly moved quickly toward him and he could feel his heart stammering in his chest. "I'm sorry, I wasn't spying on you. I was just ... surprised to see you is all."

He huffed a great sigh then and raised his blue-eyed gaze to meet her again. "I'm- I'm sure you've heard, but I'm being held captive here now. But Celestria and Rougaru." He explained, the embarrassment even hotter on his cheeks now. "But... I'm feeling better, physically at least, since the last time I saw you." He flicked his tail over his haunches and shifted his weight nervously over his four hooves. "I see you came back to Paradise after all." He said, offering her a sheepish grin. "Congrats on your daughter."
