Meltable

Melisma

Before her fears could run too rapid and out of control, Cain shut down her proposal. In some ways she is relieved, and in others she is not. Fighting always gave an open opportunity for injury, and an injured lead stallion did not offer any sort of protection for his herd. But he was right, the burden was not her’s to carry. Perhaps if she was lead mare, but Melisma was far from that. Only the brief squabble with Geneva, the previous lead mare, had given any insight to what she was capable of when she had won against the draft mare.

When he offered a new idea to help, her ears pushed forward to listen intently. Melisma had not been back to the mainland since coming here, and had not wanted too. The Lagoon still haunted her and at least here she did not have to deal with it’s stench lingering on the wind. But she would not turn it down, not when she had come here to try and help him.

“I can do that.” she replied. Talking to others wasn’t her specialty, but that didn’t mean Melisma wasn’t capable. She just wondered if Solomon was the kind to let his mares venture away from home, or if she would have to do further investigating. A few swims in the sea would wash away the scent of Cain and the Desert, perhaps then she could get further intel. All risks, ones she didn’t know if she would have the courage to take until the time came.

Another thought crossed her mind, one that made the dark mare frown and look away, dropping her head slightly. If she went and did this for him, If she went and did this for him, it would most likely keep her away from him the upcoming season. Melisma didn’t know if she wanted a foal or not, never having one before, but she had never had a place like this before either. It was silly for her to suddenly feel this way, knowing he had plenty of mares to produce his children. What would one mare being gone to do this for him matter?
