legends never die tyr

Bane had come down from her mountain less and less frequently, these days. Becoming a recluse? Even worse, becoming her mother? No. It was such a strange concept to her, Anath’s return. After all these years, it hardly seemed like there was a point. The ragged, greyed general made no secret that she was disappointed in the path that her youngest daughter had chosen. Maybe that was on the list of things that fed into Bane’s uncertainty about taking a new position… codebreaker. Was she ready? Would she ever be?

Probably not. Between that and the deep stress over what had happened with Eden, Bane hadn’t necessarily been in the best space. She’d rejected her own daughter-- her adult daughter. It wasn’t like she still had an obligation, right? Eden had been cultivated to maturity, and that should be all that Bane needed to do. She wanted her own life back. Was that too unreasonable?

Guilt crept in around the edges. Autumn twilight was coming on as Bane stepped from the Peak and into the Falls. An imaginary boundary, but one that was important regardless. Lost in her own thoughts, and enjoying the sound of the last few surviving crickets singing softly. Bane was trying to be okay these days, but sometimes trying wasn’t good enough.

It’s a shame that Bane was too wrapped up in her own thoughts to pay much mind to where she was going. That combined with the dusk that had settled thickly over the Falls, it wasn’t out of the question that she walk smack into someone… or something.
