GUIDELINES
common sense, really
i. the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
ii. anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
iii. adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
iv. the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
v. the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors

Just as she was resigning herself to other endeavors, a whinny sounded from nearby. The filly raised her head what few degrees she could, looking around with her ears on a swivel for its source. The sharpness of shock and confusion quickly dissipated into the brightness of her joy. It was Nephilim! He'd come from a different direction than she had anticipated and was nearly upon her.

The smile on her lips was hard to dampen as she reached out to exchange breaths with him. The action and their close proximity had encouraged more butterflies to flutter within the young brindle. She always wondered what traces in his scent were of other places he had visited, but the heart of it was a rich, warm scent that was distinctly him.

"I'm so happy I came across you first." Her full bright smile was back, as hard to keep back as the sun after a storm. “How have you been, Vervain?” The question was hardly hanging in the air a moment for her to respond before another question left his lips. "What are you doing out here alone?" Vervain balked a moment.

Her ears twisted back as the filly partially bowed her head away from him, trying to give herself a moment to think. She'd been silly not to think of how to explain away her mother's absence. The part of her that thought her to be foolish wondered if he thought her so young as to need to be near her dam, which nearly wilted her.

Her lower lip was between her teeth again. "Oh, um. . " she started, trying to school her face into a casual expression. "I just. . wanted to, uh, walk on the beach, and Mom didn't feel like it." She tried not to sound like she was making it up on the spot, but it might have been too obvious at that point. Hesitantly, Vervain looked back up at the young stallion. Her eyes searched his, hoping: either that he would let them move on to something else or dig deeper. Either way, it was delightfully terrifying.

Vervain
