TWINS DIBS
1. What are your general thoughts on this topic? Do you feel as though the current system is fair and balanced?
I’m honestly indecisive about this, as there are a number of factors to consider about the overall systems of twins, including the twins dibs perks.
For example, those with large herds or open breedings etc could be considered at having more chances to roll for twins (which I understand
is a character choice/depends on circumstances, and also involves havingworked to build a herd, etc) so I don’t think any
way of going about this will be perfect, and that’s okay, but definitely room for improvement.
2. Do you feel as though it would be fair to limit the number of twin dibs to one per season? This would leave the second pair of twins to be rolled naturally.
Also indecisive about this - Twins perks are earned, and say if someone had been saving theirs to use in the upcoming season to work in with
plotting but weren’t able to be the first to post/someone else used their twins perk first, I don’t think it’s fair that a player has to adjust their plans
and wait for the next breeding season, but I also understand that it’s disappointing to the rest of the player base that could be hoping for a chance at twins.
3. Do you feel that it would be beneficial to raise the maximum number of twins per season to three? ... If so, how would you balance the rarity?
I’m not keen on the idea of a mid season occurrence of a potential twin roll. Perhaps a max of two twins perks used per season and one random roll.
Or just, not include the twins perks in the count at all - that wouldn’t change the ‘rarity’ of the random roll but still enable those who have
earned their Twins Dibs to use them at their leisure - they're one use only so it won't likely be a regular occurnce (depending on how
many perks are in circulation), while still leaving the chance for two random twins (and being based on rolls, aren’t even guaranteed both
twin rolls even happening).
I don’t think imposing some kind of mortality risk should be forced on players, beyond the already limited two defect rolls per season (that are
also able to be opted out of).
4.Do you have any other thoughts or suggestions not covered by the above points?
In general, I personally wouldn’t be phased at all by the potential increase of twins. True, it’s not very realistic - the whole twins being born in the
wild and surviving isn’t all that realistic to begin with, but the Islands themselves aren’t strictly realistic either - with their extreme/very different
environments and weather etc, in such close proximity, it’s a little touch of the fantastical.
All of that makes for a fun setting to write fictional ponies. Same with heights/breeds thriving in a variety of climates, eye colors, herd structures and
the like, they’re all not strictly realistic, or real-world accurate, but add a little creative freedom to what is a fun, inclusive, relaxed roleplay community.
And me, as a player, could be like, ‘oh wow, lots of twins this season’ but in character, it wouldn’t really affect/impact any of my ponies (unless I happen
to have a character parenting one of the sets of twins) so I honestly don’t see any harm in it and am not bothered by it. (It’ll make no difference
to Senu in the Badlands, or my boys in the Lagoon, for example, if there are two or three sets of twins born in one season.) Twins don't inherently
come with any special lore or 'bonuses' etc, so I don't see why a potential increase would be any different from a normal sibling pair being
joined or traveling around together - it's just a little flavor at the end of the day.
One suggestion I do have is Twin Dibs remain being limited as an option for a reward - just to Featured Member, and once or twice per
year for contests (which, I think it is already?? Or… is going to stay that way?). I don’t know if there’s a strong feeling in the player base that
there are an abundance of Twins Dibs in play? If so, maybe limiting it further to just Featured member and one contest per year?
With Twins Dibs having been earned, as mentioned before, whether through posting/advertising contests or being nominated as a
featured member, I don’t feel it’s something that should be restricted as to when it can be used, but at the same time I don’t think it should
be another thing that impacts other players’ chances at getting a twin roll.
And just a final note, personally, I don’t see the rarity of Twins as a problem, as I mentioned there are many aspects about TLI that don’t strictly
stick to realism, twins in general, survival rates of both twins and mare etc. For me it just serves as a potential plot device/character
development that I might be lucky to have a chance at.
AWAY PROTECTION 1. Do you think the way away protection currently works is fair? Are there any changes you would like to see? I can see both sides, honestly. But it’s a tricky/sensitive area - things happen in real life that can pull anyone away at any time, and I feel that so
long as they’re checking in, keeping their absence updated (even if it’s just a quick private message to admin/mod team to touch base with them)
I think that’s fair. Given that work is put into running and keeping a territory, I think those that have worked for that shouldn’t have it taken away
due to real life circumstances beyond their control that are keeping them from it.
2. Which (if any) of the above solutions seem the most fair to you? Or do you have your own idea? With the sub lead positions able to retain herds, and the trend that seems to have started of allowing other characters without positions
to have mares etc… If it's more a matter of more players wanting to have more opportunities for their characters as opposed to actually
owning the territory, co and subleads are able to claim and challenge and grow their herds, so it’s not as though their options are affected by an
absent territory leader.
Co and Subleads are still able to post and interact with their herds, and herd members should be able to visit the common or thread
in in the territory with he herd and subherds and other neighbouring territories if the territory lead’s player is away. I know that
it could impact muse a though, but perhaps some communication between players when possible might ease that?
If there’s really a demand for it, I would prefer to add more territories to existing islands, or raising Cimarron from the depths as has been suggested,
while keeping the Territory cap in place. Or alternatively, lower the territory cap to one territory owner per player to spread it out a little more, rather
than taking away from players who are going through a rough patch in real life.
