Re(1): New Year's Wishes Posted on January 2, 2025 at 04:40:58 PM by same song different year
Seems a bit hypocritical to write a thumbed post wishing for a better year while criticizing what they did to your colleagues the last year, and then the last sentence ya anonymously out me by name from criticizing.
Dude, I made the cut. Congress won't take back our Social Security and Retirement once its been given out.
How old are ya friend? If you're still in the business be happy im out here in my last career doing what I can to make sure YOU will make the cut when AI replaces even the morning men with a sidekick that talks a lot more real than the HAL9000 envisioned in the film 2001.
The worst that can happen for me other than a societal shutdown is if Trump doesn't handle our enemies any better than he did Covid.
We may lose some in our investments but hopefully not much. Ya don't lose to a bad economy except when you have to sell. We'll survive Trump. The Markets bounced back and doubled after he left the first time. We may not like corporations much but if they just look out for themselves, their value will look out for us.
Again, how old are you? I got no nestegg out of broadcasting but the economy was good enough so the 20 years that followed my exit, I was young enough to build one because I got into an industry that believed in retirements for their staffs because they needed our skills.
Been sayin in here to think about YOURS while you still can develop the skills that can't be replaced by AI.
Did I ask you how old you are? Still married and does she have her retirement too? The hard part's always the worry about the wife and grandkids and leaving assets for them to survive ya. And then gifting some of your assets and not waiting til the end when it's too late.
Make your end of life plans now on paper. We boomers learned that when we saw our parents didn't so we had to pick up the pieces for em. Just in time, abt 20 years ago. If I hadn't bailed broadcasting before then, I couldn't have done that. Did I ask you how old you are? Will you have enough time left to work for your security then for the fun of it? I dont' know what the hell people are gonna live on who didn't! Hopefully your parents, if they're still around, helped their kids out. I don't think we're headed for the kind of times we boomers have enjoyed.
Among the things I advise middle aged people in my final career--passing knowledge to others using the internet... which of course is technologies' successor to OTA radio and TV broadcasting.
Hopefully you were smart enough to invest in enterprises on their way up instead of on their way down. I did that with my skill sets too while I still had enough years to build up that security.
Can't say I'd planned it, but I was bored anyway and as I'd said a few years ago in here, I didn't want to disrupt my family to follow my career moves, which is often to change markets, given the few broadcasting options are available without moving.
Hopefully, you're not just hired help where you found your nitch. Did I read this week one of the Program Directors got cut here in town.
What does radio pay these days? Six figures, I hope to god for ya!
We lost money during Covid but it's been a good 4 years and Biden at the helm brought our value back and more.
A guy I know who's been selling me TV's just quit his job and took one at one of the two TV stations to do production. He thinks that's a move up. I didn't hve the heart to tell him his new job was another temp move but I dont have the confidence that station will be there in another 20 years for him. I don't watch affiliate TV at all tho I kept an eye on Seacrest's hyped up dog and pony show faking excitement for yet another ball drop. Well it was exciting for the millennials.
I spent the time today with you, bragging that you hadn't made a career move yet. My point was to urge you to do so. Are you bored yet?
Where's Jim? I just logged in like I usually do, to check on his welfare. Is he still alive? I can't tell by his posts because they're all the same.
Gee we had 3 mass killings yesterday. WE can thank Trump for that. I think had Trump gone to prison when he should have, it would have been a more peaceful new years. Too bad. That kind of shit is why we have to plan ahead for ourselves and the younger people we love. I'm not as optimistic about 2025 as you are; I just know that I did what I could but we're moving into the tic tok era; we grownups arent too happy about that but the torch is being passed and this will be a learning time for them.
We had our vietnam and Nixon....it passed. This one will too.
I know you think this is insanely long but it's not. ITs about as long as a podcast and they're all the rage these days. Lot of people have moved on to do their advising on a media other than yours. The educated crowd watches Sunday football but not much else on TV. The internet is a much more effective medium.
