It's like a face that I hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face that watches every time I lie
A face that laughs every time I fall
And watches everything

Sasha had been upon the beach of the silver cove, as per his usual, staring out to sea for the longest time. Well, it wasn't nearly as enjoyable as it used to be, ash coating the ground still and the gloom of the ashcloud muting everything that used to be beautiful about the cove. Sometimes he thought about killing himself here, and was fingering the razorblade in his pocket. He sat upon the rock, the same rock upon which he had almost died on before.

Why couldn't he do it? He had nothing to live for anymore... his life, here, was so empty, so lonely... Atreyu was a nightmare, and Sasha was discovering more and more that he was not ready to be a parent. He and his son did have a connection but... it wasn't like a normal family at all... Atreyu openly mocked him, and provoked him. He even teased him about his cutting problem. Now with Faustus gone, Sasha wasn't sure if he'd ever be back, and he couldn't handle all of this alone. They were always in fear of the next curse, always waiting...

As he sat there, staring out into the horizon, he saw the shoreline grow... Not like the tide draws back a bit before a wave pushes it back up.. But the beach (which already had seemed a bit larger than usual) was growing... Like a continuous tide, and the birds were gone, leaving the shore silent and still. His eyes widened as he looked further out to sea. No.. it couldn't be.... But the worst part of it was that he wasn't sure if he should escape or not. Part of him wondered if he should just let it overtake him, kill him, end him... but just like every other time he contemplated his death he was too cowardly to commit. He didn't want to know what would happen after he died... whether there was an afterlife or not... He wouldn't want to live there either.

He wasted a lot of time in indecision before his wings expanded and took him up into the air, as high as he could go. He thought he saw movement below, felt a pressure in the air, a blast of heat from the expenditure of energy that it took for Vali to open the rift, but by the time he glanced down the wave was already crashing against the ground and swept up over the cliff. He instantly felt an unavoidable fear for Atreyu; that motherly bond that even Sasha couldn't escape entirely. Was his son okay? Was his son alive?

He looked down at the swirling mass of tides and ocean beneath him, fear hammering in his chest. Where would they all go? Where could he go? It was too cold in the mountains,s o where else would be safe?

The Core.

He was about to take off towards the castle before something caught his eye below, being swept along in the tidal waters. A child's toy? Normally he wouldn't have stopped, wouldn't have taken the risk but... They had all just lost everything... wouldn't it be worth it to save something for somebody? He squeezed his eyes shut and took a deep breath, swinging down to coast riskily along the churning waters, grasping for Vali. He was about to give up before his fingers finally grasped the wooden bird, scooping it up to his chest and pulling as far away from the water's surface as he could.

He looked at the toy curiosly, wondering who it migh've belonged to. It looked like it had been made by hand, with love for somebody, somebody who he already envied. He looked out to the now much more massive ocean, sighing and turning towards the core.

It took him far too long to get there, and his back and wings ached, his body shivering from the cold. A few times he had dipped dangerously in his flight, almost giving up out of exhaustion, but eventually he did reach the large castle, collapsing on a balcony of a tower. It was already late in the day, and he had no idea if anybody was even inside. What if they had all been killed except him? His breath caught as he stared up at the sky. Despite his feeling so different from everyone else, he wouldn't be able to handle being so alone, he can't. He eventually grasped the handle of the door and slipped inside, his clothes drenched from the spray of the water and chilled from flying so high up in the atmosphere.

Shivering he stumbled down the stairs of the tower, giving a sigh of relief when he heard the murmur of voices. He slipped down the stairs and emerged in a room, dimly lit by fire. He clung to the wooden toy, shaking as he worked his way through, looking for Atreyu or Adonis... they were the only two people he talked to, only ones he knew. When he found Atreyu, he hugged the reluctant child. He said nothing, did nothing else, but expressed his relief in a rare but genuine embrace. If Atreyu was here, than Adonis must be as well, but at this point Sasha was so tired he couldn't help but collapse beside a fire, wings folded as he tried to soak in as much warmth as he could.

WOuld they be able to survive the curses? This one had almost destroyed them all, and there was no way of telling if their familiars had all been killed.. what if they were gone? What if they'd drowned...? Everything looked so bleak and Sasha? Well Sasha was the last person to expect optimism from... Although he had saved the toy, he couldn't find the will to search for its owner. Right now, he selfishly clung to it, indulging in the perfectly normal feeling of fear that could turn the most childlike of things into the most reassuring of comforts.
