Shadow had caught the male's approach long before she heard his voice or saw his face. And she wasn't happy about having anyone near enough to her that she could hear the footfalls. Her ears flattened against her skull and a low growl escaped her maw. She was older, yes, but she wasn't without an ability to fend for herself. She never would have lasted this long if that were so. She was debating on standing her ground and fleeing. She was not a small wolf, she was fairly large, quick, agile. But, would that be enough? She didn't know who the stranger advancing on her was, and so she was unsure of what actions to take. She was wavering, cool gaze sweeping the darkness, watchful for the approaching form.

She sniffed at the air, hoping to catch a scent, but it was useless. She lay stone still, her lobes twitching, listening intently. She could tell that the stranger was not large, surely the creature couldn't be much larger than herself, at the very most. It wasn't a dragon. That caused her to relax a tad bit. She didn't think it was any mythical, actually. No, it sounded to be a wolf, or something along those lines. Something she could defend herself against if need be. Shadow was ever thankful for the night, for the darkness. For the fact the she could blend so well with it. She was no coward, but she didn't much like violence. She had seen enough of it in previous years to last her a lifetime. And then the other emerged and she was shocked.

She knew that scent, she knew that face, those eyes. His faltering question only sealed it. Her son. She rose quickly, unable to tear her gaze away from his form. It couldn't be. No.. But, there he was. There was her Deku. It had been so long, and he was much older than she remembered him. But, that would be the case. She had been gone for such a long time. She couldn't believe it, just thinking about it, and now one her children had manifested in front of her very eyes. This had to be a dream, she was not this lucky in life. And yet... There he was! Her tail wagged, she was giddy. She was torn between wanting to run to him, to clear that little distance between them, embrace him and the desire to flee. She was not like he would remember. She was blessed, no, she was cursed. What was it? Vampire heart? She was a monster. "Deku..." It wasn't a question and her voice was little more than a whisper.

With hesitation she took a step towards him, moving slowly. She didn't want to scare him with quick movements, not after so long. And, she was unsure of herself. She didn't know if this curse might make her do something she'd regret. She didn't want to hurt him. Another step, painfully slow. She wanted to be near him, she wanted to breath him in, feel his warmth. So long.. It had been so long. Another step. Her ears were back, and she whined softly. If only she wasn't the way she was now. She stopped herself. This was not a good idea. She needed to be alone, by herself. She needed to be the shadow, to slip away into the dark and just go. But she couldn't. Not when her child was so close to her, not when he was there for her to touch, to talk to.
