Days had passed since the ess had been at Staircase falls. Hours had gone since she had rescued a male from falling to his death. Tears had been shed as once again she was left alone. The ess had returned to Sawtooth, hoping to see her son Terrel; which unlike her other plans had gone remarkably well. He had been there. Waiting for her to return and she was so glad when she finally arrived home and embraced her not so little boy. However there were other things occupying the lass’s mind. Things that Terrel couldn’t help her with. Matters of the heart.

The ess padded through Blossom, unaware of where she was heading. She had spent a couple of days at home with her adopted son but nothing could quench the need that was growing in her heart. She had been alone for too long. Elegant paws moved through the under growth as quiet as a shadow. Her feminine figure brushing against the tall weeds and grasses. The forest was dull and quiet but there was life and light at the end of the tunnel. A small clearing appeared on the horizon and the lass’s curiosity got the better of her.

Her paws moved slowly dodging fallen trees and objects that stood in her way. Being a wolf, a hunter, there was not much that would stop her getting from the prize she longed for. Her eyes focused on the light through the trees. Her auds flickered as the sound of water and conversations flooded her ears. It seemed as though the place she was heading was somewhere the other inhabitants of Blossom were fond of. Scents of many other wolves flooded her nares. It was obvious that many other wolves had walked this lonely path; she was one of the crowd.

It wasn’t long before the ess reached the light. It was a small clearing leading to a river. Channing poked her head around the bushes that lined the area before stepping out of the shadows fully. Her eyes focused on the remarkable place, and the many other wolves that were present. It seemed this was a place of romance. Many of the wolves here were in couples or by their scent, were looking for love. The timber hued ess smiled. Her heart was intent of finding a mate and it seemed she was at the right place. Maybe here she would find a male and he wouldn’t up and leave her like every other male in her life- All except for Terrel of course.

“Oh Terrel,” the ess muttered to herself. She loved her adopted son more than anything. At the moment he was her only family, yet that was not blood. He would always be on her heart no matter what, but there was a problem. The femme knew how much her son hated males, it stemmed from his father. Channing had never met him but from the way Terrel spoke of him, he seemed like a monster. That was the problem. If he hated males, how would he react if Channing met a male and fell in love? She shuddered at the thought. What if they made her choose? She couldn’t... She just couldn’t.

Channing sat down with a sigh, her tail curling round her paws. A look of worry clear across her face. Tor help her. How was she ever going to find a mate with a face like that? The ess sighed again. The need in her heart to find love was still burning strong, but the fear that he son may leave her was a sickening. She had devoted most of her life to raising her son and had given up a normal life to be with him, though she may not have been the best mum, she loved him dearly.

The timber ess peered around slowly, her amber orbs watching the loved up pairs nuzzling each other. She smiled slightly as she thought of what she could be like if she found the right guy, but the smile faded quickly. She wasn’t with the right guy and she didn’t know if she would ever find the perfect male. Only time would tell so the lass settled in for a long wait.
